Hi Nancy,
You have the right identification. I am working with the census and have
then in the 1870 in Columbia City. Charles is age 10. Don't know where his
brother George W Stough's family is in 1870. George was killed in the C.W.
and was a hero. George and his wife and kids are buried in Columbia City
too. John's other three full siblings were sisters who are also buried in
Whitley.
John had a half brother David who also died in the C. W. and is buried next
to their father William Stough in Columbia City with the rest of the family
in the Masonic Cemetery part of Greenhill.
William had many children by his third wife and most of them are living at
home (with 5th wife) in Thorncreek in 1870. Other than David who died
unmarried, don't know
what happened to all those other children. All the Stoughs in Whitley are
descendants of William Stough and two of his wives.
John Stough's mother was Elizabeth Terman. She was the much older sister of
Samuel Terman buried in Troy Presbyterian. Elizabeth probably died in
Cumberland Co. PA.
Samuel Terman is my g.grandfather. I guess that makes us related.
Janet

Seeking identity of Elizabeth (---) b. 1832 PA who married 1849/50
John
Stough of Madison Richland Co. OH
I can't answer this question (all I had was
Elizabeth, too) but I'd like
to know more about the Stough family. Charles E. Stough, whom I believe
to be a son of this couple, married my ancestor, Laura Belle Shoemaker.
Can you confirm whether Charles was, in fact, their son? What were the
other childrens' names? There are many Stough men in Whitley Co.
censuses, Civil War lists, etc. and I'd like to try to figure out where
they all belong!.
