Donald, I would certainly think that you would need to go with the
primary sources, whatever they might be, no matter what other sources
say.
And, certainly, I would hate to see you resign as the webmaster. What
you have done with the Whitley County page is outstanding.

I think the letter speak for itself. I found it totally offensive.

Thanks for the Email.
These are the dates as supplied by the publications chairman from the book
of published ancestor charts.
If the Chairman was contacted and agrees to change the dates in the book (or
books remaining) we can change the dates on the website. Mrs. Newman does
not understand that this index reflects the information in that document.
Apparently she belongs to the large number that tries to get county
officials to change records or that alters the official records to conform
to their wishes.
I wonder has successful she has been at getting the official goverment
records to change Gilbert Adams age on their records to conform to her
genealogical research (if it is the same Gilbert Adams as there were likely
multiple Gilbert Adams alive at the same time).
It appears that the date supplied for the book is the date based on
information that a Gilbert Adams supplied for official government records
and the date at Mrs. Newman wants to use is one that a relative used in
having a headstone cut some times after Mr. Adams died, which is many times
wrong. Genealogists show the various sources for a persons age or date of
birth and the various discrepancies between sources rather than the one that
they prefer.
At the present time we have lots of people requesting that name and dates be
changed to fit the data that they have rather than data as "Actually
recorded". The names and dates for this particular site were based on the
data as printed in the ancestor charts. If the remaining books are changed
(even by hand) we can change the page to reflect the books (as revised).
That is a problem with genealogy as it needs to accurately reflect what is
in the source document (rather that source document is right or wrong).
This is an index to material that is not consider as valid genealogical
reference or even secondary proofs.
I think that possibly Kay Craig is either the editor or might know who is.
I will change the page to match or correct information as provided by the
editor for that project.
Mrs. Newman has asked that I be replaced as the webmaster. All the society
has to do is ask and I will remove my name and they can appoint Mrs. Newman
Webmaster. It is that simple.
