Good Afternoon All!
There is a mailing list for census look-ups available for those of you who are not
aware of them. There are separate mailing lists for all states and I am subscribed to a
few, including Indiana! These are great lists and are very resourceful! What the lists
are for is requesting census look-ups that pertain to the state you are subscribed to.
Hopefully someone on the list will have the census and can do the look-up for you. And it
works the other way. If someone requests a look-up in a census that you may have, then of
course it is appreciated if you can do the look-up for someone else. But these are great
lists and very helpful!
To subscribe to any state, send a blank email with the word "subscribe"
(without quotes) in the message body to XX-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L-request(a)rootsweb.com but
replace the "XX" in the email address to the two letter abbreviation for the
state you wish to subscribe to. For example, subscribing to the Indiana Census Look-Up
list you would send an email to IN-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L-request(a)rootsweb.com Many of these
lists are pretty high traffic so you may wish to subscribe in digest mode (several
messages combined in one). To do that, just replace the "L" in the email
address above with a "D"
But thought I'd pass the info along for those of you who are not aware of the
available lists. Like I said, these are great tools and I have been helped greatly by
these lists!
Have a great day!
Best Regards,
Angela Kneller

Wow Angela!!
Your 1840 census made my day. Have been looking for Robert Adams in 1840
for years. The AIS missed him. (There was a Robert Adams in NYC in 1840
and have been wondering all these years if he was my Robert! Evidence
mounting he was related.)
The census was probably taken around June 1840. Robert must have left for
Putnam Co. soon after (Chloe's father died about 1840). In May 1841 Robert
and Chloe were back in NY and by fall 1841, they were back in Whitley
County.
Thank you Angela,
Janet
