I'm the great granddaughter of Frederick Burgett Lindsey. Frederrick was the son of
John Lindsey (Jr./II. John was born August 16, 1828 in Lawrence Co. Illinois. Married
Margaret Alkire, b. Dec. 30, 1830. Frederick had 7 brothers and sisters. He had 9
children of his own. Merrick Ival (my grandfather) Mona Arthelia, Arlo John, Arba Isaac,
Audrey Saville, Courtney Varaine, Gail Luke, Frederick Boyd, and Vesta Margaret. Mona
kept hand written family records until she died in 1970. One of the biggest mistakes I
have been seeing of people tracing the Lindsey family (this Lindsey family) is not
realizing that there were more than one Joshua Lindsey.
Frederick's father was John Lindsey (Sr/II) .. he also had a son John Lindsey
(Jr/III). John II's father was Joshua Lindsey b. May 11,1798 in Kentucky (as some of
you have said) and married Sally (NOT Sarah-that was a different Joshua) Johnson March 8,
1824.The children were Nancy, Mary John Randolph (II), Elizabeth (III), Louisa, Sally Ann,
Indiana,Joshua (III) George Markle, Samuel Riphenberick, and William Tipton. I have bd.
for these and some death dates. Joshua II's father was Joshua(I) married to HIS
COUSIN, Elizabeth Lindsey. They had 10 children. c. John Randolph (I), William, Mary,
Joshua (II), Elizabeth (II), Sally, Nancy, Findly, Martha and Boyd.
I have bd for all of them.
I'm a DAR and my line has been traced through the Alkire's and Rawlings side. I
am currently, as you can see, trying to do so through the Lindsey, but keep running into
these mistakes.... I have been using the census and other records to verify the
information.
If you have any regarding Joshua (I) or Elizabeth Lindsey(his cousin)... They were in
Kentucky when Joshua (II) was born on May 11, 1798.
Thank you.
