Message Board Post:
My sincere apologies for being so late with this posting. I put it aside then lost the
article, sorry! This is what I have, was in the Pulaski County (IN) paper of 7/17/1921:
PETER HEPP
The death of Peter Hepp occurred Sunday evening at his home a mile west of Winamac. The
elderly gentleman had been bedfast for six months, from a general breakdown. Sunday noon
he appeared to have been suddenly stricken by something like paralysis, and gradually
slept away.
Mr. Hepp was seventy-nine years of age on June 29. He was born in New Riegel County,
Ohio, moving to White county in the early 60s. In 1868 he was married to Miss Barbara
Haas who died in 1905. Surviving him are sons Joseph of this city, Will of White county
and Jacob, Thomas and Fred of Estherville, Iowa; daughters Mrs. George Lucas of Fort
Wayne and Miss Kate at home, the latter his housekeeper and constant companion since the
death of the mother. A little over a year ago Mr. Hepp purchased a small place west of
Winamac and moved into it from the home place near Buffalo. He stood high among many
friends, having served his old home community as township trustee for two terms and as a
member of the White county council.
The funeral was held yesterday morning, with services at St. Peter's church by Rev.
Victor Meagher. Intermnet was given in the old Catholic cemetery south of Pulaski.
Another note published in the same paper: Relatives and
friends who came from a distance yesterday to attend the funeral of Peter Hepp included
Mr. and Mrs. George Lucas and two children of Fort Wayne, Jacob, Fred and Thomas Hepp of
Estherville, Iowa, Rev. Lewis Motry, Otto Motry, Miss Jean Motry, Mr. and Mrs Jacob Hepp
and Frank Hepp, all of Tiffin, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Ewing, Mr. and Mrs James Downey,
T. W. O'Connor and John Biederwolf of Monticello, Rev. L. H. Schirack and Joseph
Hoover and daughter of Rensselaer, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Moore and Mr. and Mrs. David
Rotruck of Buffalo, John Kientz of Monon.
Another note (hope I am not boring you!) later published: The will of Peter Hepp, who
died at his home near Winamac, about ten days ago, has been probated in the Pulaski
Circuit Court. Mr. Hepp was well known in this county, having served as trustee of
Liberty nTownsh8p for two terms and as a memeber of the County Counci. Until about a year
ago he resided near Buffalo. The Will bequeaths the small farm west of Winamac to a
daughter, Miss Catherine, who faithfully cared for her father after the death of her
mother. The remaining personal property to be divided equally between the othe six
children, but these six have decided that Miss Catherine should also share in the latter
division. The son, Joseph is names as executor. The will was witnessed las January by W.
S. Huddleston and H. K. Fites.
I am a grandaughter of Joseph, Peter's oldest son. I have much more information I
would be willing to share including a Peter and Barbara family picture taken about 1902.
My mother, Anna Hepp Shanley, was 3 at the time, she lived to be 100, passing away in
1999.
