Do you know the specific location of the farm, specifically the section, etc? The below
link provides section map of Princeton Township.
http://www.whitecountyindiana.org/princeton.htm
The reason I ask is during a trip to area several years ago to investigate my wife's
Great Grandfather, Paul Frederich Auguste Meyer, we noted a farmhouse with a sign out
front indicating it was called the Black Oak Farm. The farmhouse was located in section 2
on the north side of the road. Unfortunately there was no one at the farm house at the
time to get any info. Our interest was because my wife's ancestor owned that propery
and the building appeared to be old enough to potentially have been there during his
ownership period.
You will see in the map, that in that area for some reason, the road between Sections 2
and 11 did not follow the normal n-s/e-w section lines. August's initial parcel
included acerage on both sides of the road in section 2, including a schoolhouse building
property, which he later transfered back to Princeton township as well as acreage in
section 11.
According to Entry 8923 on page 343 of Deed Book 58, dated Jan 18, 1889, August purchased
the farm property in Sections 2 &11 from the Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company for
$5500.
Entry 2440 on page 316 of Book 68, dated Dec 26, 1893, is the warranty deed transfer to
Princeton Township for $40 of the one acre in section 2 for the schoolhouse. The land was
to revert back to the owner of the section if the township ceased to use the property for
a school. I do not know for sure if the schoolhouse was on the land when August
transferred the property or if it was built later.
On Feb 11, 1901 August sold the property he owned in section 2 that was north of the road
James A May. An 1896 Plat Map of Princeton township shows the specific property that
August owned in sections 2 and 3. A later 1920 Plat Map indicates the area above the road
as James May's. A combined Plat Map book of White County covering both 1896 and 1920
can be purchased from the White County Genealogical Society.

So if we are talking about the same farm land, it appears your Christopher Hardy may have
owned it prior to the purchase by August from NW Mutual in 1889.
Note - August and his wife Augusta as well as one of their children are buried in the
Dobbins Cemetery in Section 36 of the linked map.

Searching for any information on Christopher Hardy and his ownership of the Black Oak Farm
in White County, Indiana. He is said to have operated one of the first dairy farms in the
state and also had extensive holdings in cattle and horses.
He and his family moved to Princeton Twp in White County after 1851 and resided there for
many years. He died at Remington, Jasper County in 1891.
Thank you.
