Hello Margaret,
My Great Grandmother was Carrie Owings. She had a daughter Gladys, from a previous
marriage to Arthur Adams. When Gladys was very young, Arthur and Carrie divorced and
Carrie took Gladys and moved to Fowler Indiana. She married Lew Owings who owned and ran a
livery business. Carrie and Lew had a son Ivan. Gladys married Alfred Shaw from Elgin
Illinois in 1912, she was only 14. They had three children, my father was Robert A Shaw.
Gladys and Alfred never got along, so the kids spent alot of time in Fowler with Carrie,
Lew, Ivan, and Carrie's mother Hannah Grigg. My Dad had very fond memories of these
times. Eventually Carrie and Lew moved to Monan and bought a run down farm. Gladys and
Alfred divorced when my Dad was about 8. He never spoke much about his childhood, and I
know very little about who Ivan was. I found an old picture in a box of photos I inherited
after my parents died of a Jim Bob Owings at the age of 7 months. On the back of the photo
in a note written to my m!
other it says " he looks like Ivan don't you think" and it's signed
Betty.
My records have Ivan born Oct 7 1910 in Fowler Indiana, and died July 1980 in Monon
Indiana. Does any of this sound like your family, Margaret, and if so, could you fill me
in on what you know about your side of the family. I guess if this is your family, as well
as mine, then your father was my Dad's uncle.
Sincerely Yours,
Dennis
