Phillip W. Hancock, 85
Phillip Ward Hancock, 85, of Lafayette, died Thursday,
Jan. 11, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Born in White County on Dec. 28, 1921, he was the son
of the late Cecil B. and Katherine Ward Hancock, he
had resided in Lafayette for 70 years.
He married Clara L. McAllister on May 23, 1946, in
Nashville, Tenn., and she survives.
Mr. Hancock was a graduate of Jefferson High School
and attended Purdue University. He was a branch
manager for Lafayette Bank & Trust for 32 years,
retiring in 1982.
He attended Congress Street United Methodist Church
and was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, having served
in Europe during World War II. He was discharged in
1946 and was a member of American Legion Post 1154 and
the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed traveling.
Surviving with his wife are a son, John A. Hancock of
Lafayette, and a sister, Josephine Knight of
Nashville, Ind.
Memorial visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon
Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at Congress Street United
Methodist Church, Pastor Glenda Woodcox assisting the
family. Preceded in death by a brother, William
Hancock. Memorial contributions may be made to the
American Cancer Society. Hippensteel Funeral Home
