Thanks, Dana. I think it is about time to give up. I have spent many hours (and even
years) trying to find my illusive gggrandparents. John William Campbell was born in Ohio
in 1833. I have verified that in several ways. His Civil War record says
"Montgomery, Ohio";
not "Montgomery County" or "Montgomery Township". There are both.
Montgomery County is Dayton, Montgomery Township is near Cincinnati. I have searched
every Campbell in Montgomery , Preble & Green Counties in Ohio and have found nothing
that fits. There is no Campbell in 1850 with a 17 year old son named John. I have his
marriage license in White County in 1855. He and his wife appear in the 1860 census of
Tippecanoe County, IN, Wea Township. I can find him in no other census. He died in
Lisbon, TX in 1880 and neither he nor his wife is in the census, so have no place of
parents birth. I am participating in the Campbell DNA project which places kin in the
area of Ohio and Indiana where he obviously was, but have found no direct connection. He
must be one of those individuals where no record exists. Thanks for trying to help. I
was hoping that someone would have witnessed for their marriage in White County, but that
is about my last hope. I would appreciate any !
ideas you might have. Thanks again
