Hi everyone,
I'm trying to gether some info on Susan Macklin daughter of Thomas Macklin &
Elizabeth Cox, wife of James Hays, all of whom are buried in the Brookston IOOF Cemetery,
Brookston, White, Indiana.
I've traced Thomas Macklin on the census records as follows.
1820 census, Thomas Macklin, Middletown, Lemon Twp, Butler Co., OH
1830 census, Thomas McLin, Tippecanoe Co., IN
1840 census, Thomas Macklin, White Co. IN
1850 census, Thomas Macklin, White Co. IN (widowed by this time).
From the census records I gather that Thomas Macklin was born abt 1785 in Ireland. He
died sometime after the Sep 1850 census but before the 1860 census. His wife, Elizabeth
Cox was born abt 1795. She died after 1840 but before 1850. I have not been able to find
their marriage record yet but I believe it occurred abt 1812 in Ohio.
I know that they had the following children according to the 1850 census: Owen (or
something like this--it was hard to read) age 17 born IN; Barney age 15 born IN; Hannah
agee 13 born IN; and Maria age 9 born IN.
It is also believed that Susan macklin wife of James Hays is also Thomas Macklin's
daughter, because they are buried in the same plot in the cemetery and their stones look
the same, although I haven't been able to find any thing conclusively to prove this is
true.
It is also believed that Thomas Macklin & Elizabeth Cox had the following daughters,
Elizabeth and Sarah. From what I have been able to gather, Elizabeth Macklin married
James Lewis Hewell 4 June 1835 White Co. IN. She had some children born in Tippecanoe Co.
IN before moving to Arkansas. She died 1845 in Arkansas. Her husband later died in Texas.
Sarah Macklin married Watson Lowther 30 Dec 1849 White Co. IN.
Anyone with more information on this family, please contact me. I am specifically looking
for death dates for Thomas Macklin, Elizabeth Cox Macklin, Susan Macklin Hays and James
Hays. I can pinpoint their death dates within the 10 year time frame from the census
records, but I would like to have something more complete for our book. Their tombstones
only have their names listed, and they are very worn.
Thanks
