I am copying a one-generation genealogy report on who I believe is father of Benjamin
Reynolds, and 3 siblings. I have quite a bit more on Benjamin and several of his
children, by 2 wives, if you are interested in that - quite lengthy with the census info,
etc, that I add in my notes. I could send it to you directly, off-list, if you are
interested. This work is not verified - many guesses, as you will see!! I don't know
much about your Isaac line (did he end up in Sedgwick, KS?)
Reynolds is not a direct line for me - my interest arose through a Wolverton marriage into
the Reynolds line.

Notes for MARY COLE:
Using age from stone, her birthdate calculates to 8/12/1875 - but maybe that was misread.
This Mary? Yes - age is about right - and Benjamin is one away.

Notes for BENJAMIN REYNOLDS:
Counties of White and Pulaski Co, by Battey (1883), pg 388: (under Levi Reynolds bio):
Benjamin Reynolds, although he attended school but 3 nights in his life, acquired, by his
own exertions, a sound, practical business education. When a young man, he settled in
Perry Co, OH, where he married and soon after bought and operated a stage line from
Vincennes to Toledo, following the Wabash and Maumee Rivers. In 1828, a distemper carried
away many of the large number of horses used, leaving Mr. R. almost penniless. In about
1830, he came to this county and began life anew. Being well acquainted with the country,
he was employed to locate land on commission, which commission consisted chiefly in lands,
and thus he became owner of from 15,000 to 20,000 acres in Indiana and Illinois. He was
eminently a public-spirited man. He had a contract for excavating many miles of the State
ditch, a part of which he sub-let. He was largely influential in locating and building
the N.A. !
& S. RR and also the Pan Handle Railroad, in both of which he became a large
stockholder. He was also interested in the Junction Railroad, and in 1854 or 1855 had the
misfortune to lose $100,000 by that concern. His first wife bore him 5 children, 4 of
whom are yet living. He married his second wife, Lydia J. Gardner, at Vincennes, in 1839
or 1840. She is now living at Monon, this county, and is a member of the Presbyterian
Church Mr. R. laid out the town of Reynolds, which was named for him by Gov. Willard.
During the late war, Mr. Reynolds met with his second financial reverse, having to pay
over $40,000 bail debts. From this, however, he had nearly recovered before his death,
June 6, 1869, at his home in this twp (Big Creek).

Chicago. F.A. Battey & Co, Publishers. 1883; pg 535 (Town of Rensselaer & Marion
Twp-Jasper Co): (under son, John G. Reynolds bio):
..His father, Benjamin Reynolds, was the second settler in White County, where he resided
39 years, and died June 6, 1869. He was one of the most sympathizing, determined and
remarkable men of his time. He was a kind husband and father, whose motto was equity. He
left a wife and nine children, with innumerable friends to mourn for him. A Logansport
paper said: "Benjamin Reynolds, Esq., of White County, died at his residence after
an illness of some days. Mr. Reynolds was one of the oldest settlers in this section,
having come to Indiana in 1830, and has long been identified with the progressive interest
of that portion of the State. Mount Jackson, the home of Mr. Reynolds, was known far and
near, and no one knew better how to entertain after the old-fashioned, hospitable manner,
and none made his guests more at home, than did 'Uncle Ben' as he was familiarly
called. He leaves a large property, that he accumulated through economy and industry, to
a family of nine chil!
dren, and is gathered to his rest in the fullness of his years. May he rest in
peace!"
History of White County, Indiana by Hamelle (1915); pg 486: Benjamin Reynolds was one of
the pioneers of White County, closely and prominently identified with its early
settlement, a man of great energy and natural resources. He was born in PA, May 3, 1799,
and died at his home in Big Creeek Twp, June 6, 1869. When quite a young man he operated
a stage line from Vincennes, IN to Toledo, OH, but in 1828 a distemper broke out among his
horses which left him almost a bankrupt. Two years later he came to what is now White Co,
began life anew and became the owner of large tracts of White County lands. Later, he was
largely instrumental in the construction of both the Monon and PA railroads and was
financially interested in the old Junction Railroad in which he lost about $100,000. Mr.
Reynolds was twice married. His first wife was Julia Ann Collier, who was born Jan 10,
1801, and died Oct 17, 1837. On April 2, 1840, he married Lydia J Gardner at her home in
Vincennes, IN.!
She was born in NC, Feb 21, 1820 and died at her White Co home, Jan 27, 1902, in her
83rd year. Benjamin Reynolds platted and laid out the town of Reynolds, which was named
for him by Governor Willard. His descendants are still numbered among our most respected
citizens.

History of White County, Indiana by Hamelle (1915); pg 486,87:
Isaac Reynolds was one of the most honored and well known men who aided in the development
of White County and many of his descendants are yet with us. This pioneer was born July
23, 1811, in Perry Co, OH. In March 1837, he married Miss Mary J. Hughes. About 1835 he
came to Monticello and entered the mercantile business in which he was engaged most of his
life until 1871, when he was stricken with paralysis, which soon deprived him of his
reason. He became a member of the Presbyterian Church in 1843 during a revival service
conducted by Rev. S.N. Steele, and for many years was a trustee of the church. He was
also a charter member of the I.O.O.F. fraternity of Monticello, and a man highly esteemed
in the community in which he lived. He died in Monticello, June 30, 1877.

History of White Co, Indiana by Hamelle (1915); pg 488: Miranda J. Reynolds, daughter
of William Sill, was born in Washington Co, IN, Feb 10, 1829, came with her parents to
Monticello in 1832, and was married to James C. Reynolds in 1849. In 1848 she united with
the Presbyterian Church at Monticello and in this church she retained her church relation
for 50 yrs until her death in Monitcello in Jan 1898. She was a woman deeply interested
in church work, knew the early history of Monticello and White County as few others knew
it and was deeply interested in all that pertained to the welfare of the community in
which she lived. Her father, William Sill, held the offices of clerk, auditor and
recorder for the first 12 yrs of our county's history and Mrs. Reynolds was a perfect
cyclopedia of its early annals. She was a real pioneer and delighted to dwell on the
memories of her girlhood when the town was in embryo. About 6 yrs previous to her death
she prepared and read a!
t a meeting of the Old Settlers of White County, a paper on our early history that was a
most interesting addition to our local history. She was a sister of the late Milton M.
Sill, the well known lawyer of Monticello.
