Ruth:
I found the grave of your Mary Owens and now I see why I didn’t find her originally, the
marker indicates “Owens Perry” 2 Feb 1815 – 3 Sep 1901, This is in the Old Monticello
Cemetery. The dates are consistent with information provided on the 1900 Census, when
Mary was living with her daughter-in-law (also a widow) Elizabeth (Lillian) S. Owens
[census shows scribbled last name of Ruberg] and her two sons Harry and Robert.
The family is buried together in row 13 of the Old Monticello Cemetery and all dates are
consistent with the 1900 census information.
Harry Owens (Apr 1880-1944)
Robert Perry Owens (24 Nov 1885-12 Jul 1906)
Elizabeth S. Owens (1856-1935)
Owens Perry [this is Mary] (2 Feb 1815 – 3 Sep 1901)
Buried with them but no relation indicated are:
Owens, Edna Smith (20 Jul 1873-20 Aug 1909)
Owen[s], H. P. [grave with stone fence - no other markings]
Owens, Henry Perry (25 Jul 1888- 42Y, 5m, 15d)
The 1900 Census indicated that Mary was born in Kentucky with both of her parents
originating from Virginia.
If the same person, a similar match will take you to Christiansburg, Shelby, KY in 1880
where Mary’s husband (Robert) is 17-20 years older then her. This stays consistent back
through the 1850 census (which will show you their children at the time.
Hope this helps some!
