Obituary, Bradford, Ind. 25 July 1881
On Sabbath morning, July 17, '81, one of our esteemed citizens, Mrs. Jennie
Gwin, was called from earth to reward. Mrs. Gwin was born in Jasper county
May 15, 1861, but was reared in this county. Her maiden name was Jennie
McMannis. She was the only surviving member of a family of seven children.
She united with the M.E. church in the winter of 1877 under the pastorage
of Rev. Wm. Campbell. She possessed many Christian graces. Was married
to James Gwin Oct. 17, 1878 and since that time has lived in our midst.
Her sickness was of about five weeks duration, but was not considered dangerous
at the time of her death. Her presence will be missed by many friends,
and the workers in society will feel the need of her assistance, for she
was a Christian lady, a devoted companion and cheerful housekeeper. Her
disposition, when in health, was lively, making all about her cheerful
and happy. Her loss is deeply felt by her companions, mother, and friends,
but they sorrow not as those who have no hope. They have the sympathy and
prayers of both pastor and church. She was interred in the western cemetery
at this place on the 18th inst. It is hoped that others may profit by her
exemplary life.
W.H. Hall, Pastor
