Surname: Lucas, Gillaspy
-------------------------
Monticello Herald, 18 Aug.1881 PG 1 COL 4
Died Aug 4th 1881, near Monon Chapel, White county, Indiana, Mrs. Catherine
Lucas.
Mrs. Lucas was born December 5, 1829 in Bath county, Virginia. She had
been a resident of this county and of Monon neighborhood for quite a number
of years. She was the widow of the late Luther Lucas who died a little
over a year ago. She joined the M.E. church in early life and from the
beginning of her religous [sic] career until its close in death her faith
was ever strong and her character exemplary. For a year prior to her death
her sufferings had been great and death coming was welcome. She died as
only the Christian dies. Her last words were "tell all my friends, goodby".
W. Hall
------------
Note from Holly: Her death notice, which was probably just a line, was
in the 11 August edition, page 1 col 6, and her death was mentioned again
in a "year in review" edition on 5 Jan 1882, pg 1, col 5. I don't have
these; they can be obtained from Indiana State Library. In other obits,
W. H. Hall was listed as Pastor, so was probably the local M.E. pastor.
