There is a family tree posting by a Steve Lucas on Ancestry.com that indicates Gertrude's parents to be Lafayette (Asa) Schrenkenghaust and Isabell Goldsberry. It was last updated December 28, 2006 (steve.lucas(a)ldcommodities.com)
Lafayette (Asa) Schrechenhaust
b: Abt. 1857 - Cass Co., IN
d: (he doesn't appear in the 1900 US census - Belle is listed as widowed)
Father: Daniel Schrechenhaust/Schreckenghaust (according to the 1870 Cass Co., IN census)
Mother: Elizabeth (Unknown)
M: Jan 27, 1876 - Tippecanoe Co., IN (Bk. C-15, pg. 84)
Isabelle Goldsberry
b: Sept 2, 1858 - Indiana
d: April 8,1931 - Tippecanoe Co., IN
Father: Robert Goldsberry
Mother: Eunice Hill
Children of Lafayette (Asa) Schreckenghaust and Isabelle Goldsberry:
Bessie
Frank
Minnie - b: abt. 1879
Ida - b: abt. 1882
Charles - b: May 5, 1887 - Warren Co., IN (1880 census has Charles age at 3 yrs. which would make his birthyear abt. 1877)
Gertie - b: September 17, 1889 - Warren Co., IN
Unfortunately I have not been able to place Gertrude in the household of Lafayette & Isabelle. By 1900 Lafayette is deceased and the only child living with Isabelle in 1900 is her son Charles, could not find Gertrude at all. I would assume her age to be between 13 & 16 yrs.
Another posting by a Jimmie Townsend Malott states George Brown and Gertrude were married in Kansas in 1903. He also states Gertrudes parents are Daniel W. Schreckenghaust & Belle Goldsberry. The 1870 Cass Co., IN census has a Daniel W. Schreckenghaust(age 16) listed in the same household as Lafayette Schreckenghaust, but marriage records indicate it was Lafayette who married Isabelle "Belle" Goldsberry.
I hope this info helps............Karen

Recently made a trip to Monticello to photograph the grave of Randolph Land. I noticed he had a G.A.R. medallion stuck by his grave. I've never found any record of him being in the civil war. If anyone might know who is responsible for putting these out or might have information on Randolph Land being in the Union army I would be very interested in this information.

Hi Dana,
Thanks for the info. Beatrice Mae Hunt was my Aunt. My Dad's sister. Most of your info matches mine. All I have for George's death date is Nov 1962.
The one I need info on is Gertrude Schreckenghaust. With a name like that, it would seem easy to search out, but I found very little. Who are her 7 children?
Is the marriage record you speak of, for Beatrice?
Do you need any of my info? Glad to share.
jpaltman(a)pwrtc.com email me please.

Hi Peggy,
I have lots of info on your Brown and collateral lines. After 6 years of research, Jo Ann, my co-author and I published the first edition of our Brookston IOOF Cemetery book last year (March 2006) and have sold out of all the books. However, we are in the process of editing, adding and correcting everything from the first edition and will be reprinting the book with these corrections as the second edition in the near future.
Here's what I have for George Washington Brown from the cemetery book. If you have any corrections or additions, I would love to have it.
BROWN, George Washington
born: 31 July 1880 Edgar County, Illinois
son of Henry A. Brown & Amanda Ingram
1st married Gertrude Schreckenghaust 31 July 1903 Lafayette, Tippecanoe Co. IN
2nd married Beatrice May Hunter, 24 Nov 1924 Monticello, White, IN
(the marriage record lists birth dates, as well as parents and previous spouse. It really is quite useful).
He died in Nov 1962 in Peru, Miami Co. IN. I don't have his exact death date because I didn't get a copy of his death record since it wasn't in White Co. IN
He was buried on 1 Dec 1962 in the Brookston IOOF Cemetery, Brookston, White, IN in plot D-22-4. He has a tombstone and is listed with his wife. I have more info if you want it.
I would love to swap info with you. You can contact me directly at theadpalmers(a)yahoo.com
Thanks
Dana

What is the approximate year you are thinking of? The 1873 White County plat book for Honey Creek Township shows the poor farm at that time was northeast of Reynolds. There may have been a cemetery at that location. The more recent poor farm was just west of Norway and there is a small cemetery (Lakeview) between Norway and the most recent poor farm.

Lonnie Maurice Criswell married Faye Elizabeth Douglass on 24 Aug 1918. Listed in the White County, Indiana marriage records book 14 page 199. Marriage location not listed in the marriage certificate. FYI--parents, birth dates and other info are listed in these marriage records so it is worth it to get a copy.

Ralph Henry Sayre who died 19 Feb 1920 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette from suicide is buried in the Brookston IOOF Cemetery in Brookston, White, Indiana.
You might also look for a will or estate records in the probate records. If you are lucky sometimes there will be a receipt for a casket or mention of the cemetery they were buried at.

I looked today at White Co genealogy society and all I could find was Auffenburg Funeral Home book (our old, out of business home) and I found Levi's name with nothing on it filled out but the facts part. It said 21 Dec 1933. So I assume this is his death date and Auffenburg buried him. I would say at Hughes cemetery. Only way to know is to probe the lot to see if there are 2 caskets there. They did not list Mary Ann as their client.
Also found his son Ralph's obit. He shot himself in head on 26 Feb 1920. Obit said his father was Levi D Sayre and he lived in Battle Ground at that time. Tippecanoe Co.
