Hi Avis, Thank you for the information about the school and church on that corner. I
believe that is located on the same section 8 owned and inhabited by the McConnels from
1845-48 to 1870-80. I also thank you for the link to that article about Ossian. I
recognize and am probably related to about half the names in the story. Not sure if that
is my John Snyder, as mine ended up in a neighboring county. However, my ancestor, John
Snyder/Snider married McConnel daughter, Mary Elizabeth. I was aware of Willliam Craig and
his marriage to McConnel daughter. Also William Glass married Martha McConnel and they are
on the same census page with Robert McConnel for one or two years. From that article I
also recognize David H.Swaim, probably son of Civil War Lt. Col. Wm. Swaim and Hannah Toy
of Ossian. I am descended from Wm. Swaim's brother, Tanton Swaim. The Swaims married
Allen, Roe, and Stine, as well as Snider in the Ossian area and all of those names are
mentioned in the article. !
Now I want to see how many of those dots I can connect. There are a couple of other
articles about William Craig on line. There is also an artcle about John McConnel in Allen
County, son of Robert and Mary Ann. These artcles told me Mary Ann's maiden name of
Stout and also birthdates for Mary Ann and Robert and that they came from New Jersey. I
have traced them to a marriage record and McConnel Deed in Oxford, NJ and from there
learned Robert's parent's names, but have yet to learn Mary Ann Stout McConnels
parents. I thought the Craig cemetery sounded promising and also the Spider or Methodist
cemetery. I would love to find something naming Mary Ann's parents. Thanks again for
the great information!
