Donald Dwight Schaefer, 63, of Bellflower, Calif., a native of Wells County, died
Wednesday. He had been ill the past year with diabetes, but death was unexpected.
Born in Wells County, he was a son of Joel and Lillie Schwartz Schaefer and had resided in
Adams County.
Mr. Schaefer served as a paratrooper in the Marine Corps during World War I I, including
active duty on Guadacanal, and for the past 30 years had lived in California. He was
retired from Bethlehem Steel Mills in Los Angeles.
Surviving are two brothers, Glen E. Schaefer of La Mariada, Calif., and Rev. Gerald
Schaefer of East Atlon, Ill., and three sisters, Mrs. (Bill) Millie Baumgartner and Mrs.
Mary Jane Fosnaugh, both of Decatur, and Mrs. Charles (Rosella) Fravel of Geneva.
Mrs. Gladys Fiechter and Mrs. Katie Maller, both of Bluffton are his aunts.
Services and burial will be in Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Calif.

A native of Wells County, Mildred D. "Millie" Baumgartner, 74, of 807 Avondale
Dr., died at 11:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 17, 1927 to Joel and Lillian Schwartz Schaefer, she was a housewife and an
artist and she attended the Bluffton First Church of he Nazarene.
Her marriage on July 1, 1952, in Santa Maria, Calif., was to Wilford B. Baumgartner, who
survives.
Also surviving are two sons. Del Baumgartner and Joe H. Baumgartner, both of Fort Wayne,
four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Additional survivors are two sisters,
Mrs. Charles (Rosella) Fravel of Geneva, and Mrs. Mary Jane Fosnaugh of Decatur.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Bluffton First Church of he Nazarene, with
Rev. Larry Sheets officiating and burial in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery.
Calling at Goodwin Memorial Chapel will be Sunday from 12 noon to 8 p.m. and for one hour
prior to services.
Preferred memorials to the First Church of the Nazarene missions.

Rosella M. Fravel, 72
A native of Wells County, Rosella M. Fravel of Geneva died Thursday, Feb. 3 at Lutheran
Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born Sept. 21, 1932 to Joel and Lillie Schwartz Schaefer, her marriage on March 25, 1950
in Portland was to Charles E. Fravel, who survives.
She attended school in Wells County and had owned and operated with her husband â?oThe
Hubâ? in Geneva for many years.
In addition to the husband she is survived by three sons, Lonnie D. Fravel of Geneva, Gary
L. Fravel of Bobo and Brian G. Fravel of Decatur; three daughters, Mrs. Patrick (Karen S.)
Height of Scottsville, Ky.; Cindy L. Gunter and Teresa G. Fravel-Cox, both of Geneva, and
a sister, Mary Jane Fosnaugh of Decatur.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen, Donald and Gerald Schaefer, a sister,
Mildred Baumgartner and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in
Geneva with Robert Farris officiating and burial in Riverside Cemetery in Geneva. Calling
at the funeral home will be Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until time of
services.
Preferred memorials are to the donor's choice.
