I was at the Bluffton library the other day and looked up the Bethel School
and church. Didn't find much. I was wrong about it being a Methodist
Church. It was called Bethel EUB. It was dedicated in August of 1872. I
know that later (much later) it became a Mennonite church. I have a friend
who went there as a child. The school was built in 1897. Ransom Allen was a
trustee.
There is a great picture of the school in a book at the library called
"Wells County towns and townships."
The only person that this friend(mentioned above) knows that is still living
that might be able to give you more information is Mary Crossgrove of Leo,
Indiana.
Sincerely, Avis Hulvey

Hi Avis,
Do you know where I could learn more about the church and school that were
on the corner of 1100 North and 100 East in Jefferson Twp? I found a
Bethel church on line in a different township. Also, I think there is a
Bethel M E church in Ossian. I know I had a lot of Methodists in the
family, so don't know if Bethel Ch and Bethel ME are connected. I would
like to know when the church and school were built and what years they
were in operation. I am hoping to get to Wells county this year, but will
be traveling with a cousin who has root in a different county, so we will
be dividing our time and I hope to have a list of things to research
before I leave.
