Thank you for the information. I did not know the Leader Dept Store was
owned by your grandfather Bender. Currently, I am not sure if that is
the same store I am searching for. The source I am utilizing just
identifies it as Bender's store. I don't suppose there were store
chains back then, but then you never know. Will keep you posted of
further findings--if any.

My grandfather, Herbert Houtz BENDER owned the Leader Department Store in Bluffton from
sometime after 1900 until he lost it
in the Depression. Could this be the store about which you are inquiring?
