BOWMAN
Dious Bowman, our father was born in Huntington County, Indiana, June 19,
1884. He was the son of Ellis and Lydia (Bond) Bowman. He married Netta Belle
Ernst at Warren, January 19, 1905.
Our mother was born April 13, 1887. Her parents were George and Eliza Jane
(Boll) Ernst. Grandpa Ernst was born in Astabula County, Ohio. His father,
John Ernst, was born in Ohio in 1821 and died in the service in 1863. He was
a member of Co. C.H. 42nd Regt., Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and was buried in
the National Cemetery at St. Louis, Missouri.
George and Eliza Ernst lived in Peterson, Adams County, Indiana. Our parents,
Dious and Netta Bowman, were residents of Wells County and were the parents
of six children: Enid McDaniel, Edith Arnold, Ethel Dedrick, Eileen Miller,
Harold, and Donald Bowman.
Our father's trade was barbering. Early in their marriage, he operated a
barber shop in Tocsin. Later, he worked in several shops in Bluffton,
including the Jim Porter Poolroom on North Main Street. In the early 30's, he
owned a shop in Fort Wayne, at the site of the present Fort Wayne Newspapers
Building located on West Main Street. Our father died March 4, 1945, and
mother continued to live at their 1225 W. Cherry residence until her death on
March 11, 1967.
