I'm looking for information on my great-great-grandfather & his family.
I've found John McMillan & wife, Anna (possible maiden name Ewing or Harper,
depending on which cousin's baby book you believe) in the 1900 Census for Wells
County, Indiana. The information I have so far indicates that they were naturalized
citizens, came to this county in 1865, and married in 1868. John is theoretically a Scot
or scots/english, but Anna has been variously reported as scots/english, Irish, or
irish/english. Family legend says John & Anna met on the boat coming over and married
once they got here. John supposedly died in Bluffton, 8-9-1903, and Anna 9/1907, also in
Bluffton. In addition to my g-grandfather, James Harper McMillan, born 1879, Indiana,
There may have been a daughter, Euphemia, or Effie who married Deroster Crook in October
of 1887 Wells county and possibly a Knudsen later on, or possibly other children. Any
further information on any of these folks would be appreciated. If they're in any
census other than the 1900 one where I found them, t!
hey're hiding well - even the computerized indices don't show any likely matches,
and since I don't know where they landed or married, I'm sort of at a real dead
end. Help would be seriously appreciated.
