Robert E. Roehm, 76
Father of Robert E. Roehm II of Markle, Robert E. Roehm, 76, of Wolcottville, died
Thursday, Jan. 20, at his winter residence in Winter Haven, Fla.
Born May 1, 1928 in Fort Wayne to Edward and Opal Favory Roehm, he was married to Marilyn
E. Parkison Roehm. She survives.
He was owner and operator of Roehm Marine in Fort Wayne for 35 years. A World War II
veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a board member of the Fort Wayne International Aviation
Museum, a member of the Seaplanes Pilots Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots
Association, the Back Forty Flying Club, American Legion Post 82 and Young Eagles.
He was a member of Beymer United Methodist Church in Winter Haven and an affiliate member
of Trinity United Methodist Church in Kendallville.
Additional survivors include four daughters, Margaret “Peggy” Roehm and Mrs. John (Nancy)
Austin, both of Fort Wayne, Mrs. David (Susan) Junk, Winter Haven, and Mrs. James
(Elizabeth) Sanderson, Wawaka; a sister, Mrs. Richard (J. Carole) Hill of Fort Wayne; 18
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services at 11 a.m. Tuesday will be at Trinity United Methodist Church, Kendallville,
under the direction of Dr. David Hogsett.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Monday at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals in Fort
Wayne, and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the church or the Visiting Nurse and Hospice.
John D. Herndon, 64—Rites Pending
A resident of rural Bluffton, John D. Herndon, 64, died Friday at the Bluffton Regional
Medical Center emergency room. Rites are pending at Goodwin Memorial Chapel.

Phyllis E. Gutshall, 76
Phyllis E. Gutshall, 76, of Bluffton, died at 11:10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22 at Lutheran
Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born in Jay County on July 25, 1928 to Fred W. and Hattie M. Summerfield Besser, she
married Homer Gutshall on Jan. 18, 1947 in South Bend; he survives.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and worked at Franklin Electric for 29 years,
retiring in 1988.
Other survivors include two sons, Jim Gutshall of Bluffton and Raymond Gutshall of
Longmont, Colo.; two daughters, Vicki McKinney of North Manchester and Mrs. Daniel (Susan)
Koehler of Berne; three brothers, Ted and Dan Besser, both of Hartford City, and Larry
Besser of Muncie; one sister, Betty Vought of Hartford City; 11 grandchildren; and 12
great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Goodwin Memorial Chapel, with Pastor
Scott Meier officiating. Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m.
Burial will be in Six Mile Cemetery. Preferred memorials to Lutheran Home of Mercy in
Williston, Ohio.
John D. Herndon, 64
John D. Herndon, 64, of Bluffton, died at 11:15 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at Bluffton Regional
Medical Center.
Born in Ambia on Nov. 8, 1940 to Edger and Beulah M. Davis Herndon, he married Myrtle F.
Thrasher in Rossville on Oct. 11, 1963; she survives.
He was a tool and die maker at Hower Tool for 22 years, retiring in 2002. He was a veteran
of the U.S. Army, serving from 1959 to 1962 and was a member and past commander (1988-89)
of the American Legion Post 111 in Bluffton. He was also an avid bird watcher.
Other survivors include three sons, Scott, Barry and Spencer Herndon, all of Bluffton; a
daughter, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Hay of Chatham, Ill.; two brothers, Jim Herndon of
Scottsdale, Ariz. and Bill Herndon of Danville, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. James (Sandra)
Mallott, Fort Wayne; and seven grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel, with Larry
Sprinkle officiating. Visitation hours are today from 2 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Six
Mile Cemetery where the American Legion will conduct military graveside rites.
Preferred memorials are to the family.
Karen Cayot, 53
Karen Renee Cayot, 53, of North Topsail Beach, North Carolina, died Friday, Jan. 21 at
Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, N.C.
Born in Allen County on April 9, 1951, she was a special education teacher and taught
college-level psychology at the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base. She was also a
diagnostician for the past two years. She was a member of the New River Church of God in
Sneads Ferry, N.C.
Survivors include her mother, Cecile Cayot Guerin of Zanesville; two sisters, Mrs. Dan
(Ellen) Decker of Bluffton and Mrs. James (Carol) Love of Fremont; and two brothers, Les
Cayot of Zanesville and Brad Cayot of Ossian. She was preceded in death by her father,
Eugene J. Cayot.
There will be no visitation. A private family service will be held, with burial in
Hoverstock Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the Eastern Europe Aid Association.
Arrangements are being handled by the Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian.

Caden Lee Holdeman-Finton
Great-grandson of Mary Lou Markley of Bluffton, Caden Lee Holdeman-Finton, age five and a
half months, died at 7:57 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at Riley Hospital for Children in
Indianapolis.
Born Aug. 12, 2004 in Huntington to Nicholous Finton and Nichole Holderman, both of
Huntington, he is also survived by grandparents Denny and Deb Holdeman of Syracuse, Mike
and Lori Guldice of Huntington, Michael Parker of Portland, Tenn., and Randall and Robyn
Osborn of Wabash; as well as several other great-grand parents and
great-great-grandparents.
Services at 2 p.m. Wednesday will be at bailey-Love Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Kevin
Dunlop officiating. Burial will follow at Andrews Riverside Cemetery.
Calling hours are from noon until the time of service Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to the Caden Lee Holdeman Benefit, which will be held Saturday, Jan.
29 from 12 noon to 10 p.m. at the American Legion Post in Huntington.
Betsy Carnall Stine, 66
A native of Bluffton, Betsy Carnall Stine, 66, died Saturday, Jan. 22, at
Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem, Mass., of complications from Lou
Gehrig’s disease.
Born Jan. 18, 1939 in Bluffton to Don L. and Esther Roof Carnall, she married Rev. Dr.
Peter Stine in 1967. He survives.
A 1956 graduate of Bluffton High School, she earned her bachelor’s degree in English in
1960 from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She taught at junior high school in Pontiac,
Mich., for five years and then moved to East Lansing, Mich., to complete her master’s
degree in education at Michigan State University, where she met her husband.
The Stines moved to Beverly, Mass., after Mr. Stine joined the faculty of Gordon College.
Mrs. Stine worked in the development office at Gordon College, then she served as
librarian of Montserrat School of Art in Beverly. In 1985, she became the librarian at
Danvers High School, retiring in 2002.
Additional survivors include two sons, Zachary of Danvers, Mass., and Caleb of Durham,
N.C.; and two daughters, Mrs. Anthony (Jennie-Rebecca) Falcetta of Providence, R.I., and
Mrs. Michael (Sarah) McKenna of Peabody, Mass; and a brother, Ned Carnall of Fort Wayne,
formerly of Bluffton.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Peterson-O’Donnell
Funeral Home in Danvers. Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity
United Methodist Church in Danvers.
Memorials may be made to the ALS Association.

Paul E. “Gene” Turner, 95
Owner of Gene’s Sanitary Market in Warren for 42 years, Paul E. “Gene” Turner, 95, died at
8:35 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the Warren United Methodist Memorial Home.
Born Dec. 28, 1909 in Marion to Floyd E. and Audrey Sleeth Turner, his marriage to the
former Bertha G. Bonham took place Oct. 8, 1933 in Warren. She survives.
A graduate of Marion High School, he attended classes at Carlton College in Northfield,
Minn. A member of the Warren Church of Christ, he was a 50-year member of the King Lodge
#246 F. & A.M. in Warren and a member of the Scottish Rite.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, George B., of Rancho Murieta, Calif.; a
daughter, Mrs. Robert (Jean Anne) Finley of Greensboro, N.C.; two grandsons and two
great-grandchildren.
Services at 2 p.m. Friday will be at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel,
Warren, with Gerald Moreland and William Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at
Woodlawn cemetery.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to services Friday at the
funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Warren Church of Christ or to the donor’s
choice.
Lois E. Kean, 93
Retired in 1973 after 44 years service with the Fort Wayne State Hospital & Training
Center, then an active civic and church worker in Muncie for years, Lois E. Kean, 93, of
Riverview Fla., died last Thursday, January 20, 2005, at Brandon Regional Medical Center
in Brandon, Fla.
She had moved to Florida in 1993 following her Muncie years when she was a member of the
High Street United Methodist Church and the Older Adult Program. For several years she was
director of the annual Multiple Sclerosis drive in Delaware County.
Born Jan. 30, 1911, in Harrison County, Indiana, she was a daughter of John Perry and
Gertrude Cunningham Shaffer. Her marriage was at Keystone on January 13,1931, to Clyde
Farlow Kean, who preceded her in death on April 7, 1973. Also preceding her in death was a
sister, Annis Ross.
Mrs. Kean was a member of the Riverview United Methodist Church in Riverview, Fla.
Calling will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Glancy Funeral Home-Walker Chapel in
Montpelier. There will be no funeral service here. Private burial will follow at Historic
Woodlawn Cemetery, Montpelier.

William “Bill” D. Leamon, 47
A former resident of Bluffton, William “Bill” Douglas Leamon, 47, of Grayson, Ky., died
Friday, Jan. 21 in Kentucky from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Leamon was a 1975 graduate of Bluffton High School. He was employed at Isch Gas and
Soft Water and attended the First Church of Christ in Bluffton before moving with his
wife, the former Melinda Ringger, and family to Grayson in 1987.
He was the director of maintenance at Kentucky Christian University for 16 years and was a
member of the First Church of Christ in Grayson. He was a leader of the Carter County
Mission Team, on the board of directors of Howell’s Mill Church Camp and the Hippo Valley
Christian Missions.
Born Aug. 2, 1957 in Defiance, Ohio to William and Ruby Barger Leamon, his marriage of 29
years was to Melinda Ringger, daughter of Al and Colleen (Decker) Ringger of Bluffton.
In addition to the parents and his wife, who resides at 516 Morgan Ct., Grayson, Ky.,
41143, other survivors include two sons, Jason Leamon of Burlington, Ky., and Joseph
Leamon of Grayson; a daughter, Jennifer Leamon of Cincinnati; a sister, Mrs. Rick (Brenda)
Wiles of Artesia, N.M., two brothers, Bruce Leamon and Arnie Leamon, both of Artesia, and
one grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday at the First Church of Christ in Grayson with Philip
Lemaster officiating and burial in the Kentucky Christian University Cemetery.
Sharon Kay Dye, 66
A native of Bluffton, Sharon Kay Dye, 66, of Lebanon, Tenn., died at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan.
24, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
Born Feb. 23, 1938 to Fredric and Dorothy Leimgruber Scott, she married Everett G. Dye
June 14, 1958 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, John of Jacksonville, Fla., Father Robert Dye of
Muskogee, Okla., and Gordon of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Mrs. James (Debra) Getchell,
of Venis Fla.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Fredric Scott.
Burial was in Lebanon, Tenn. There were no services or calling.
Arrangements were handled by Goodwin Memorial Chapel.
Katherine M. Fisher, 83
Mother of Mrs. Lindle (Judy) Stephens of Nottingham, Katherine M. Fisher, 83, Dunkirk,
died Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie following an extended illness.
Born Oct. 9, 1921 to Raymond A. and Bernice M. Howe Taylor, she was married to Howard C.
Fisher. He preceded her in death in 1988.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Dunkirk Moose Lodge, the Dunkirk American Legion
and the People’s Sympathy Club of Muncie.
Additional survivors include five sons, Raymond of Fort Wayne, Philip of Bradenton, Fla.,
Randy of Dunkirk and Howard and Jack, both of Hartford City; three other daughters, Sarona
Sluder of Hartford City, Mrs. Bob (Jane) Dawson of Temecula, Calif., and Mrs. Danny
(Dianne) Fuller of Dunkirk; two sisters, Anna Mae Hillman and Mary Sutliff; 24
grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, two grandsons and
one great-grandchild.
Services at 1 p.m. Friday will be held at Dunkirk Memorial Chapel under the direction of
Rev. Marion Donovan. Burial will follow in the Dunkirk IOOF Cemetery.
Calling is from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Helen Robinson, 89
Former Markle resident Helen M. Robinson, 89, of Fort Wayne, died at 1:00 a.m. Thursday,
Jan. 27 at the Ossian Health Care Center in Ossian.
Born in Wells County on June 16, 1915 to Claude and Illa S. Caley Crow, she married Wayne
L. Robinson on Oct. 21, 1935 in Marion; he died July 31, 2004.
A homemaker, she was a 1932 graduate of Lafayette Central High School and was a member of
the Markle Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Donna) Bradburn of Ossian; two sons, Frederick
Robinson of Christmas Island, Australia and Leslie Joe Robinson of Racine, Wis.; seven
grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother,
Kenneth Crow.
Services will be held Monday at 3:00 p.m., at the Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel, with
visitation beginning at noon until the time of the service.
Burial will be in Hoverstock Cemetery, Zanesville. Preferred memorials are to the
Make-A-Wish Foundation.
