Donald Lund, 92
Donald Lund, 92, Markle, died at his residence Thursday, Jan. 6.
Born Aug. 27, 1912 in Nevada, Iowa, to Frank V. and Emma Burnett Lund, he was united in
marriage Jan. 1, 1935 in Markle to Gladys L. Overholt. She preceded him in death May 16,
2004.
A 1931 graduate of West Union High School in Huntington County, he was a member of the
Markle Church of Christ where he served as a Sunday School teacher and elder for many
years. He served as a trustee of Union Twp., Huntington County, and was a past president
of the Union Twp. and Huntington County Farm Bureau. He also served as trustee of Great
Lakes Bible College.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. James (Carol S.) Haupert of Wabash and Mrs. Patrick
(Cynthia A.) Waikel of Markle; two sisters, Kathryn Best of Markle and Mrs. Lloyd (Mary)
Overholt of Markle; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three step
grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert; a grandson, Harland E. Haupert II; a sister,
June Corell; and two brothers, Warren and Harry Lund.
Services at 2 p.m. Monday will be held at the Markle Church of Christ with Pastors Gerald
O. Moreland and Mark Cleaveland officiating. Burial will follow at the Markle Cemetery.
Calling will be Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Markle Church of Christ Missions Fund.

Kenneth L. Cook, 79
A retired truck driver, Kenneth L. Cook, 79, of rural Bluffton, died at 1:50 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 8 at his home.
Born June 27, 1925 in Lawrence County, Ill., to Clarence G. and Florence Irene Wilson
Cook, his first marriage in 1946 was to LaVeda Brown, who died in 1993. A second marriage
on Jan. 3, 1994 in Warren was to Eilene H. Steffen, who survives.
He retired from truck driving in 1986 after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of World
War II with the Navy Sea Bees in the 123rd Construction Battalion in the Pacific Theatre,
and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter in Markle. He attended the
Apostolic Christian Church.
Surviving in addition to the wife are a son, Gene A. Cook of Liberty Center; a daughter,
Mrs. Thomas (Eilene) Hitzeman of Springfield, Ohio; a step son, Tim Williams of Bluffton,
a step daughter, Sheri Smith of Columbia City; three sisters, Doris Meyers of Marion,
Sylvia Flynn of Celina, Ohio and Mrs. Norm (Shirley) Lawrence of Eudora, Kan.; eight
grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis L. Cook.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Apostolic Christian Church North
with Phil Stettner and Nile Bucher officiating and burial in the church cemetery.
Calling at Goodwin Memorial Chapel will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and for one hour prior
to services Wednesday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.
Harriett H. Bragg, 71
Harriett H. Bragg, 71, Montpelier, died at 11:55 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7 at Ball Memorial
Hospital in Muncie.
Born in Blackford County on Dec. 19, 1933 to J. Lee and Hazel Hart Johnson, she was a 1953
graduate of Roll High School and worked at Montpelier Glove Co. and Dacra Glass.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda McClain of Keystone and Mrs. Jody (Janet) Murray of
Montpelier; two sons, Jerry and Rex McClain, both of Montpelier; three sisters, Elizabeth
Cupp of Marion, Betty Michael of Kokomo, and Carrie Copsey of Indianapolis; five brothers,
Fred, George and Virgil Johnson, all of Hartford City, Tom "Butch" Johnson of
Redkey, and Jim Johnson of Dunkirk; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her husband, James A. Bragg, who died Aug. 23, 1996; and a brother,
Harry Johnson.
Services are scheduled for Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel in
Montpelier, with calling hours there today from 3 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Gardens of
Memory in Muncie. Preferred memorials are to the family.
Jayne D. Mattson, 89
Jayne D. Mattson, 89, died at 1:12 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9 at the United Methodist Memorial
Home in Warren.
Born in Montpelier on Sept. 18, 1915 to William J. and Marian Waltz Davies, she married
Warren N. Mattson on Jan. 7, 1940 in Marion; he died Sept. 27, 1984.
A homemaker, she was a graduate of Montpelier High School and a lifelong resident of the
Montpelier area. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Montpelier, a charter
member of the Psi Iota Xi and a member of the Brass Latch and the Dinner Bell Band.
Survivors include three sons, Willard D. Mattson of Windfield, Ill., Warren Mattson II and
Allen Mattson, both of Hartford City; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Walker and Grace Wright.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel in
Montpelier, with services scheduled there for Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in
Brookside Memorial Park in Montpelier. Preferred memorials are to the church.
Donald E. Dailey, 69
The father of Douglas Dailey of Bluffton, Donald E. Dailey, 69, of Berne, died at 8:42
p.m. Friday, Jan. 7 at his residence.
He was a 29-year employee of Meshberger Bros. Stone Co.
Other survivors include his wife, the former Carol Everhart; another son, Donald L. Dailey
of Decatur; one brother; four sisters; eight grandchildren; and three great
grandchildren.
Services were held today at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne. Preferred memorials
are to Adams County Home Health Care.
Mildred M. Hebble, 87
Funeral services for Mildred M. "Midge" Hebble, 87, of Decatur, will be held at
12 noon Tuesday at Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home in Decatur, with burial to be in
Decatur Cemetery. Calling will be from 10 a.m. until time of services.
Mrs. Hebble died Saturday, Jan. 8 at Woodcrest Nursing Center in Decatur. A native of
Adams County, she was born April 1, 1917 to Cecil C. and Vera O. Draper Gause and was
married on April 4, 1936 to Harry H. Hebble, who preceded her in death in 1986. She is
survived by a son, John C. Hebble of Decatur, a sister, Patricia Bienz of Washington
Courthouse, Ohio, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Kathryn Bonham -- Memorial Service
A memorial funeral service will be this Saturday, Jan.15, at 1 p.m. at the Robert D. Loose
Funeral Homes South Chapel, 200 West 53rd St. Anderson, for former Bluffton resident
Kathryn A. 'Kitty' (Buckner) Bonham, 76, a former Hartford City mayor and
councilwoman, who died Dec.19, 2004.

Irene F. Smith, 88
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Veterans Cemetery in Marion for Irene F.
Smith, 88, Ossian, who died at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort
Wayne.
Born March 24, 1916 in Milwaukeee, Wis., to Nick J. and Anita Staniak Balcerzak, her
marriage to Gordon W. Smith took place Sept. 15, 1950 in Waukegan, Ill. He survives.
She was a housewife and worked for five years at a hospital in Elcom, Wisc. and for 16
years at Heavy Duty Corp. at Lake Geneva, Wis.
Survivors include a son, Gordon, of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Doris) Kies of
Milwaukee; two sisters, Mrs. Bob (Sylvia) Radtke, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Ray (Dorothy)
Milkolajek of Arkansas, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Lewandowski, and three brothers, Raymond, Edward
and Chester Balcerzak.
Officiating Friday's graveside service will be Rev. Willy Stevens. There will be no
calling.
Goodwin Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Markle, who died at 8:22 a.m. this morning at the Meadowvale Health and Rehabilitation
Center in Bluffton.
