Genevieve E. Teagle, 96
Wells County native Genevieve E. Teagle, 96, died at 5:39 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2 at Ball
Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
Born on March 4, 1908 to Sylvester W. and Grace G. Beatty Dunwiddie, she married Nathan
Teagle on Oct. 4, 1926 in Poneto; he died Sept. 12, 1957.
A 1926 graduate of Petroleum High School, she was a homemaker and also worked at the
Federated Store in Montpelier and the Nowak Gift Store in Bluffton. She was a member of
the Happy Hour Club in Keystone, as well as the Keystone United Methodist Church, where
she was a pianist and also gave piano and organ lessons for over 40 years. She resided in
the Poneto and Keystone areas for many years before moving to Montpelier in 1997, where
she attended the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Joy Glenn Teagle of Hartford City and Lowell K. Teagle of
Kokomo; two brothers, Brooks Dunwiddie of Fort Worth, Texas and William Dunwiddie of
Anderson; a sister, Edna Davenport of Sturgis, Mich.; nine grandchildren;18 great
grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren. She was also precede in death by a
daughter, Erma Reff; and two brothers, James and Dale Dunwiddie.
Calling hours are today from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Glancy Funeral Home, Walker Chapel in
Montpelier. Services will be held there Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Steve Landis
officiating. Burial in Friends Cemetery in Keystone. Preferred memorials to the Keystone
U.M. Church.
Dorothy Milholland, 78
Wells County native Dorothy Jean Milholland, 78, Hartford City, died Friday, Dec. 3 at
AmeriCare Living Center in Hartford City.
Born in Union Township on May 7, 1926 to James H. and Naomi P. Cargar Ertel, she married
Bruce D. Milholland on Oct. 19, 1950 in Bluffton; he survives.
The couple moved to Hartford City in 1954, where she was a member of the Trinity United
Methodist Church. She worked as an aid at Community Care for 13 years, at Sears in Fort
Wayne , and also for many years at Mason’s Root Beer Stand in Hartford City.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Claudia Dunica of Peru and Betty Jo Hensley of
Hartford City; three sons, Barry, Keith and Tracy Milholland, all of Hartford City; 10
grandchildren; a step grandson; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by a son, Douglas Milholland; and one grandchild.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Keplinger Funeral Home in Hartford City,
with calling there for three hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Hartford City
Cemetery. Preferred memorials to the church.
Daniel W. Strauss, 87
The father of former Bluffton resident Cinde (McMillen) Heston, Daniel W. “Jim” Strauss,
87, Elkhart, died Friday, Dec. 3 at his home.
A native of Warsaw, he was founder and owner of Strauss Bakeries. Other survivors include
his wife, the former Annette Schumaker; two sons; two other daughters; a foster daughter;
three stepchildren; 15 grandchildren; two foster grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and
11 great grandchildren.
Calling hours are until 8 p.m. this evening at Stemm Lawson Peterson Funeral Home in
Elkhart and one hour prior to the services Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church
in Elkhart. Preferred memorials to the Riley Childrens Hospital.

Alvy C. Melton, 84
A night supervisor at Sterling Casting in Bluffton from 1966 until his retirement in the
mid-1980s, Alvy C. Melton, 84, of rural Bluffton, died at 11:57 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7,
2004, at Meadowvale Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Melton had worked for a period of years at the Atlas Cement Plant in Fairborn, Ohio,
before coming to Wells County and his employment at Sterling here. He served in the U.S.
Army from 1940 to 1945 during World War II as a medium tank crewman. He was a member of
the Prairie Methodist Church.
Born September 4, 1920, in Hyden, Ky., he was a son of Lawrence and Lillie Caldwell
Melton. His marriage was on Nov. 27, 1944, in Wells County to Mae B. Begley, who preceded
him in death on March 13, 2002.
Surviving are two sons, Denny K. Melton of Enon, Ohio, and David R. Melton of Bluffton;
three sisters, Mrs. Rancie Ellenberger and Loretta Stauffer, both of Bluffton, and Edna
Dillinger of Sturgis, Mich., and two brothers, Vernon Melton and Joe Melton, both of
Bluffton.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Thoma-Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral
Home, where services will be at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery with
military graveside rites by Bluffton American Legion Post 111. Memorials to the American
Cancer Society.
Roger D. Hunt, 75
A native of Wells County, Roger D. Hunt, 75, of Fort Wayne died Tuesday, December 7, 2004,
at Hospice Home. He was a quality inspector with Dana Corporation for 32 years and retired
in 1980.
He was a member of the Dana Quarter Century Club and Salem United Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce E.; a son, Greg Hunt of Sparta, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Wes
(Karol) Hamilton of Indianapolis; a brother, Marion Hunt Jr. of Bluffton; four
grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Calling will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.Thursday at D. O. McComb & Sons
Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Rd., where services will be at 2 p.m.
Friday. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens. Memorials to Visiting Nurse &
Hospice Home or Salem United Church of Christ.
Gilbert P. ‘Red’ Pettit, 82
A farmer and 39-year employee at the Roanoke Grain Elevator, where he retired in 1985,
Gilbert P. “Red” Pettit, 82, of Huntington, died at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at
Parkview Huntington Hospital.
He was a member of Pilcher's Chapel United Methodist Church.
Born June 20, 1922, in Wabash County, he was a son of James and Stella Russell Pettit. His
marriage was on Nov. 3, 1944, in Huntington to Anna Jane Pequignot, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Rick Pettit, of Fort Wayne; four daughters, Mary Ann McDonald
and Dixie Lee Pettit, both of Fort Wayne, and Patsy Jo Laux and Bonnie Jean Pettit, both
of Huntington; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the time of funeral services Friday at Myers
Funeral Home Huntington Chapel. Interment will be in the Star of Hope Cemetery. Memorials
to Pilcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
Joshua Coleman, 18 — Rites Pending
Joshua Coleman, age 18, died at 8 a.m. today from a car accident on County Road 500 East
in Blackford County on his way to school. He was a senior at Blackford High School.
Arrangements are pending at Walker Glancy Funeral Home in Montpelier.

Joshua Lee Coleman, 18
Joshua Lee Coleman, 18, rural Hartford City, died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, from
injuries suffered in an auto accident south of Montpelier.
Born Oct. 1, 1986 in Wells County to Lee Allen and Cynthia Diane Noble Coleman, he was a
senior at Blackford High School and employed at McCammon Trucking.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Amy Coleman, a student at
Franklin College, and Angela Cook of Portland; maternal grandparents J. Charles and Patty
Noble, Montpelier; paternal grandmother, Mary Coleman, of Okeechobee, Fla.; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Harley Coleman.
Services at 2 p.m. Sunday will be at Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel, Montpelier, with
Rev. Tim Wallace officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Montpelier.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Josh Coleman Scholarship Fund care of Marion School Employees
Federal Credit Union.
