Jody,
Samuel G. Cotton, George Washington Cotton's father died May 21, 1902 in
Chicago, Cook Co., IL.
I have not determined why he was in Chicago when his family, including his
wife, was in Bluffton at the time of his death.
You will find Jospehine Lovey (or Lovely) McDonald or (McDannel or
McDaniel) listed differently depending on which source you use.
Please note that you are dealing with varying capabilities to read and
write, not only in the family members, but in the cnsus takers and in the
newpapers and county directories that reported the significant events in
their lives and their obits. Also, some of the printed articles contained
typographical errors that may have been passed on as truth. You also need
to note that many of these records were written in family bibles and such
that are old, worn, damaged and/or illegible in part or full. It isn't
surprising to get some conflicting information, you just do the best you can.
Part of the joy of genealogy is the search, and the further back you go,
the more difficult it becomes to find definitive answers to some of the
questions.
Regarding not having information prior to your third GGgrandfather, on
what side? I once provided you with information leading back to John
Cotton in 1748, and further on the Ricketts side. Are you looking for
maternal information? If you provide the names and any additional
information you have, then maybe we can help. If not, we will never know
who the GGGgrandfather is that you are wondering about...
