Barbara J. King, 66
A longtime former employee of Montpelier Glove Co. and then retired from Central Indiana
Warehouse at Montpelier, Barbara J. King, 66, of Montpelier, died at 1:15 p.m. Saturday,
July 30, 2005, at Meadowvale Health & Rehabilitation in Bluffton
She was a member of Alethia Chapter 206 of Eastern Star. Millard Brown American Legion
Post Auxiliary, Gamma Nu sorority and the Montpelier Fire Department Auxiliary. She was a
graduate of Montpelier High School.
Born January 8, 1939, in Blackford County, she was a daughter of William Vernon and
Marjorie Anna Nicholson VanCamp. Her marriage was on Jan. 12, 1957 at Montpelier to Marion
L. King, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Rinda A.) Thiele of Antwerp, Ohio, and Patty King
of Montpelier; two sons, Tony A. King and Bob L. King, both of Montpelier; a half-brother,
Gerald Baker of Bluffton; two half-sisters, Jean Chapman and Roberta Hargrove, both of
Montpelier; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A sister, Mary Graham, and a
brother, Leo VanCamp, are deceased.
Calling is from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today in Montpelier at Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker
Chapel. Montpelier Fire Department members will meet at the funeral home at 7:30 and there
will be an Eastern Star service there at 8 p.m. today. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Rich Hadley officiating. Burial will be in
I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Montpelier. Memorials to the Montpelier-Harrison Township Cancer
Society c/o Sandy Strickland, Montpelier.
Tenney Glenn White, 81
The father of Mrs. Craig (Elizabeth) Leonard of Bluffton, Tenney Glenn White, 81, of Fort
Wayne, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Parkview Hospital.
Born Jan. 4, 1924, in Fort Wayne, he was the elder son of Walter “Whitey” and Routh Culp
White. He was a graduate of South Side High School in Fort Wayne and served in the Army
Air Corps during World War II. His marriage to Dorothy Phyllis Schuerenberg, who preceded
him in death, was on March 10, 1951.
A piano tuner by profession and the owner of Summit String Service until retiring in 1998,
he also was a musical instrument technician with the Fort Wayne Community Schools for 36
years. An accomplished musician on trombone and baritone, he played with the Mizpah Shrine
Band and American Legion Post 47 Band for many years.
He was a member of Home Lodge #342 F&AM, Scottish Rite and York Rite, a charter
member of Aldersgate Methodist Church and attended Tri-Lakes Baptist Church in Columbia
City.
Surviving, in addition to the Bluffton daughter, are two sons, Tenney G. White II of
Sikeston, Missouri, and Nevin White of Mt. Dora, Florida; five grandchildren, seven
great-grandchildren and his former wife, Carol Nebehy of Chicago. Preceding him in death,
in addition to his wife, Phyllis, was a brother, Walter Dean White.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 5, at Covington Memorial Gardens,
8408 Covington Road, Fort Wayne. Arrangements by D.O. McComb Lakeside Park Funeral Home in
Fort Wayne. Memorials to Shriner’s Hospital Burn Center.

Verda M. Wright, 90
A former postmaster in Uniondale, Verda M. Wright, 90, died at 7:10 a.m. today, Aug. 4, at
Meadowvale Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bluffton.
Mrs. Wright graduated from Rockcreek High School in 1932. She retired in 1987 after
serving as the Uniondale postmaster for 28 years. She lived in Uniondale for 46 years and
attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Born Dec. 7, 1914, in Bluffton to Verne T. and Mary E. Raber Gordon, her first marriage on
Feb. 24, 1940, was to Claude Penrod, who preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 1954. Her second
marriage on March 15, 1962, was to Gerald S. Wright, who preceded her in death on Aug. 23,
1982.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Penrod of Bluffton; a step son, Ken Wright of Flatrock,
Mich.; a step daughter, Mrs. Jay (Sharon) Crozier of Ossian; four grandchildren; three
step grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and eight step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary A. Huyghe.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel and Saturday
one hour prior to services. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home
with the Rev. Walter Graeflin officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery in
Bluffton.
Preferred memorials to the Uniondale, Liberty Center or Poneto fire departments.
Duane Loren Adams, 40
A lifetime resident of Wells County, Duane Loren Adams, 40, of Bluffton, died at 8:20 p.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 3, at his residence.
Mr. Adams graduated from Bluffton High School. He worked for County Line Swine for the
past six years and was also a landscaper for Turf Lawn/Landscaping Service in Bluffton for
several years. He was a member of Moose Lodge #242 in Bluffton and Sonlight Wesleyan
Church.
He was born May 20, 1965, in Bluffton to Eugene and Betty Baily Combs, who preceded him in
death.
Survivors include his care giver and companion, Deborah Adams of Bluffton; two sons,
Jeremiah and Ryan Adams of Portland; two step children, Ashley and Gavin Stanley of
Bluffton; three sisters, Mrs. Tim (Karen) Vorndran of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Craig (Sharon)
Young of Convoy, Ohio, and Mrs. Tony (Tina) Goodman of Muncie; and two brothers, Gayland
and Phil Grogg of Bluffton.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral
Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with pastor Tom Bradley
officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton.

Donald E. Kummer, 85
A native of Wells County, Donald E. Kummer, 85, died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 2, at the
Waters of Yorktown Nursing home following an extended illness.
Mr. Kummer was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II aboard the U.S.S.
James Barber. He retired from Beckett Bronze Machine Shop after more than 50 years of
service. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge, the Loon Lake Association of Columbia
City for 35 years and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
Born Dec. 15, 1919, in Wells County to Samuel and Clarissa Kummer, he was preceded in
death by his wife, Virginia.
Survivors include a son, Martin Kummer of Auburn; a daughter, Mrs. James (Carolyn) Hutson
of Gaston; two sisters, Norma Collett of Noblesville and Mrs. Robert (Maxine) Foltz of
Muncie; two brothers, Wayne Kummer of Dunkirk and Robert Kummer of Marion, Iowa; and a
granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Earl, James, Lester, William and Kenneth Kummer
and five sisters, Thelma Kauffman, Edna Tschannen, Mary Chenoweth, Goldie Wagner and Betty
Kummer.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Garden View Funeral Home in Muncie. Calling hours
will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard
will conduct military burial rites.

Roger E. Schaffter, 82
A graduate of Bluffton High School, Roger E. Schaffter, 82, of Geneva, died at 10:47 p.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Swiss Village in Berne.
Mr. Schaffter was a dairy farmer for 38 years. He also did custom farming and was a former
employee of Denver Yoder Sawmill. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in
Vera Cruz.
Born Feb. 6, 1923, in Adams County to Henry and Eva Eloise Lane Schaffter, his marriage in
Berne on Nov. 25, 1943, was to Treva Soldner, who survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Charles Schaffter of Berne; a daughter, Emma Marie
Schaffter of Henderson, Nev.; and a sister, Marjorie Moser of Bluffton; eight
grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne with Dr.
Richard Pulling officiating. Calling hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and on Saturday
from 9 a.m. to the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be at M.R.E.
Cemetery.

James B. Studabaker, 57
A long-time mechanic for Poore Brothers and Kitco, James B. Studabaker, 57, of Bluffton
died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Studabaker served in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1974. He was employed at Kitco for 27
years.
Born Dec. 7, 1947, in Bluffton to James O. and Crystal Tuttle Studabaker, his marriage on
Dec. 12, 1986, was to Thelma J. Sparks, who survives.
He is also survived by his mother, a son, James B. Studabaker II of Bluffton; two
daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Melissa) Brown of Bluffton and Mrs. Kimball (Luann) Black of Fort
Wayne; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Gerry (Linda) Sinks of Raleigh, N.C., Mrs. Paul
(Kristina) Patton of Avilla, and Mrs. Sheila (John) Ramseyer-Flotow of Milford.
Other survivors include four brothers, Keith Masterson of Bluffton, Donald Studabaker of
Geneva, Bob Studabaker of Texas and Dallas Studabaker of Decatur; six sisters, Mrs.
Roberta Kernstein, Mrs. William (Vickie) Osborn and Mrs. Dennis (Paula) Deininger, all of
Bluffton, Mrs. Stephen (Joyce) Johnson of Berne and Debbie and Sharon Studabaker; four
grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel with Larry Sprinkle
officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and one hour prior to services
Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery. American Legion Post 111
will be in charge of graveside services.

Carolyn I. King, 67
Carolyn I. King, 67, of Montpelier, died at 8:35 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Ball Memorial
Hospital in Muncie.
Mrs. King was a homemaker. She attended Bryant High School and was a member of the
Assembly of God church in Montpelier.
Born Oct. 23, 1937, in Jay County to Fred L. and Lola Hudson Longnecker, her marriage on
Feb. 14, 1956, in Tell City was to Marvin L. King, who survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, Michael King of Pennville, Gary King of Marion
and Robert King of Montpelier; a daughter, Connie Green of Athens, Ala.; five sisters,
Mrs. Raymond (Thelma) King of Montpelier, Mrs. Tom (Betty) Meyers, Patsy Laux, Mrs. George
(Rita) Pattison and Janet Steward, all of Portland; 11 grandchildren; and four
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Jean Mathys.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Glancy Funeral Homes - Walker Chapel in
Montpelier. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Russ
Houser officiating. Burial will be at Brookside Memorial Park in Montpelier.

Michael A. Shuttleworth, 42
The brother of Matt Shuttleworth of Warren, Michael A. Shuttleworth, 42, of Huntertown,
died in his residence Friday, July 29.
Mr. Shuttleworth was a longtime Warren resident. He was the owner of Shuttleworth Tree
Service in Warren for many years and also did carpentry work in the area.
He was born July 9, 1963, in Huntington, to Don Shuttleworth and Barbara Beavans Falk.
In addition to his brother in Warren, he is survived by a daughter, Christina Tuell of
Hartford City; a brother, Mark Shuttleworth of Van Buren; and three sisters, Mrs. Bob
(Dawn) Eloph of Kimmell, Mrs. Ron (Jennifer) Minick of Roanoke and Ann of Fort Wayne.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Glancy Funeral Homes - H. Brown &
Son Chapel in Warren. There will be no service following the visitation.

James Richard “Jim” Garrett, 88
A former Liberty Center resident, James Richard “Jim” Garrett, 88, of Indianapolis, died
Wednesday, Aug. 3.
Formerly of Cape Coral, Fla., Mr. Garrett graduated from Purdue University in 1944 and
spent 34 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a statistician. He served in
Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey and Washington, D.C. Retiring as the head of the Fruit and
Vegetable Section, he moved to Florida in 1979. After 23 years of retirement in Florida,
he and his wife moved to Indianapolis to be closer to family.
Survivors include his wife Burnell “Burnie;” daughters Mrs. Jim (Rhonda) O’Reilly and Mrs.
Pat (Cindy) O’Connor; a brother Charles “Chad” Garrett; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held today in Robertson Chapel at St. Luke’s United Methodist
Church, 100 W. 86 St. at 11 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to Family Funeral Care.
Preferred memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent’s Hospice.

Joyce L. Doornbos, 67, died at 5:24 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at her home in Bluffton.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt &
Chaney Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in
Bluffton with one hour of calling at the church prior to services.
