I just wanted to post some info I'm working on for Franklin D. Davison (
1862-? ) , wife Mary (Eckler) Davison (1863-after 1930) , son
Harrison/Harry Eckler Davison ( 1892-1971 ) and daughter Ida C. Davison (
1897-? ).
The family is part of a large DAVISON clan in the Bluffton & Jefferson,
Wells Co., IN area up thru the 1900 census.
1900 Wells Co., IN Census...page 130 A/B...
Davison, Frank (Jan 1862) 38, Mary (May 1863) 37 b. OH had 4 children/2
living, Harry (Dec 1892) 7, Ida C. (Feb 1897) 3 yrs.
Then they show up in CA, 1910 Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz Co., CA
Frank D. (46) Hotel Keeper Mary E. (44) b. Ohio, 4 children, 2 living,
married 23 years...
Harry (16) Ida (13) ...Also, Gordon, Clarice (maybe Daugh aide?) and other
employees...
Then for the 1912 & 1916 Directory of Santa Cruz we find Frank still
there...then he & daughter Ida disappear...
By 1917 Harry E. Davison serves in the Army until 1919 and possible marries
Marie J. Unknown...
1920 census San Francisco, San Francisco Co., CA
Davidson, Harry E. (30) b. IN steel inspector, mother b. OH...Marie J. (28)
b. CA stenographer
1930 Census Los Gatos, Santa Clara, CA
Davison, Harry E. -Roomer, age 37, divorced, superintendant of Dehydration
plant, father b. IN, mother b. OH...
Then after 1942 Harry is married to Winifred C. and they start purchasing
land in Sierra County, CA. I've just acqured various document copies and
am currently reviewing all the transactions. However, directories for the
area do not show them living them until 1958.
Several questions I'm working on are:
1. Marriage info on 1st wife Marie J. Unknown
2. Marriage info on 2nd wife Winifred Catherine Unknown
3. Where was Harry from 1930 until 1958?
4. Are there any descendants from either Wife #1 or Wife #2.
5. Obtain death info on Franklin/Frank D. Davison and daughter Ida.
6. Obtain Wills if available for Harry E. (1892-1971) & Winifred C.
DAVISON (1902-1966) out of Plumas co.
Here's my latest posting on Rootsweb regarding my latest adventure doing
research on this couple...
Sierra County area research

We had a wonderful day and the weather couldn't have been more perfect!
Leaving Sacramento at 7:30am it was about 47degrees and as we climbed it
went to 37 but roads were in great shape. We arrived at the Court House in
Downieville just before 10am and since they are the County Seat we decided
to stop there first. We found some ice on the handrails outside...but
inside they couldn't be more warm! The staff was helpful, kind and patient
with me not knowing exactly what I was doing. I spent a few hours before
the noon lunch break learning and finding so many deeds and mortgages we
couldn't keep up with making copies. I also went upstairs in search of
Wills but since my cousin died in Plumas county, I didn't find anything.
While I was busy doing this, my husband went downtown to the Mountain
Messenger office, within walking distance to the Court House! He was able
to sit and go thru original papers in 1966 and 1971 looking for obits but
unfortunately didn't find any. Just before the lunch break, we found the
"LIS PENDENS" of lease forfeiture my cousin Harry/Harrison E. Davison &
wife Winifred C. Davison went thru regarding Bassett's Station. I quickly
learned from the ladies behind the counter where this was located and told
there was a wall of history with previous owners listed. Thus we knew where
to go for lunch...only 45 minutes up the road!
We had a great lunch there and visited with the new owners of Bassett's
Station. It's a well known stopping place and even started in the days of
the stagecoach! The History on the wall did not specifically list my cousin
but one set of owners listed were the ones that took him to court. Chances
are my cousin wasn't an owner, and just leased a portion but I'm still
reviewing documents to figure out this language! Anyways, we were served a
yummy lunch and took photos but also bought post cards of the building to
send cousins!
Since it was already after 1pm we knew that trying to get to Sattley or
further on those curvey roads was going to be difficult. Plus we needed to
be on the road home before dusk due to deer...so we headed back to
Downieville and got the remaining copies, and even found 2 new ones! I'm
still figuring out the 20+ document copies I got ($1 each)...I learned my
cousin and his wife had land in the area from 1942 on...which is much
earlier than I thought!
We started home about 3pm and getting down the winding roads took some
doing with the sun then shade... and now I've got months of work to
followup with!! We totally lucked out with weather because any other Nov.
22nd and we should have hit worse conditions. I got some lovely photos and
would gladly encourage anyone to head to the area for research as they are
helpful and have so much for researching your genealogy in the Sierra
county area.
