There is a possibility that these records started in Knox Co. and then
when Wells was formed these records were transfered into Wells from Knox.
I am only comparing to what I found on my Watson Family in Ohio.
Ashland Co. was made from Richland and when Ashland became a county this
is where the records was I found. Always possible that Knox kept some of
the records too. Always a debatable question. Maybe someone at Allen
Co. can answer. Pat
The Wells County Genealogy Society is working on an every name deed
index. In entering the data I have found that there are numbered
"certificates" for land dated April 24,1820. There are more than 100 of
them in several different deed books and in different locations in Wells
County. Each entry is by section, township and range. My question is how
can the land be deeded on that date in Wells County when Wells County
wasn't organized until 1835/37. In 1820 this area was Knox County. As
late as 1835 Wells County was still part of the Adams New Purchase. Can
anyone explain this???? Connie Brubaker
