In your OP, you noted that Daniel SHANK was born abt 1848 and that he had two sons, David
SHANK and Albert SHANK.
I was curious about his parents, since I also have a Daniel SHANK, born about 1848, but
not necessarily is he the same Daniel SHANK as yours. That's why I was curious if you
knew the names of Daniel's parents and where he was born, also. That will help to see
if we are referring to the same Daniel or different men, but with the same name. :-)

......Yes, that David SHANK is the one we were looking for - David is my husband's
great-great-grandfather on his maternal line. We confirmed the records with our
grandmother, Ruth Eleanor (SHANK) BIGGS before she passed away last year. David SHANK is
my husband's great-grandfather.
David SHANK married Flora Kate HARTMAN 21 August 1907 in Salina, Kansas at the age of 25.
They had two daughters, Ruth HARTMAN and Mildred Caroline HARTMAN, and we suppose were
happy for a while.
Unfortunately, from what we understand, David came to California with his railroad job
temporarily without his family and died prematurely at the age of 29 in Los Angeles. His
younger daughter, Mildred, died of whooping cough at the age of 2 in 1913. Flora Kate
HARTMAN SHANK was a wonderful woman, and earned her living as a talented seamstress. She
never re-married, but came to southern California with her remaining daughter Ruth and
son-in law in the 1930's. .......
