William P. Joray, 90
William P. Joray, 90, of Berne, died at 1:13 p.m. Thursday, April 1 at Parkview Memorial
Hospital in Fort Wayne after having been in failing health the past three weeks.
Born in Vera Cruz on Jan. 2, 1914 to Emanuel and Amelia Henneford Joray, he married
Delores Egly on April 26, 1941 in Honduras, Ind.; she survives.
A 1932 graduate of Bluffton High School, he was a farmer in French and Hartford Townships
in Adams County and also worked at McIntosh Corp. in Berne. He was a member of St. John
United Church of Christ in Vera Cruz and had lived at Swiss Village Retirement Community
in Berne the past 21Ž2 years.
He is survived by two sons, Marvin Joray of Wentworth, S.D. and Charles Joray of Kokomo;
six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother,
Philip Joray.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. John United Church of Christ in Vera Cruz
with Rev. Richard Pulling officiating. Calling hours are Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the
Swiss Village Retirement Community Auditorium and for one hour prior to the services
Sunday at the church.
Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery. Preferred memorials to the church or Crossroads
Home in Fort Wayne. Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home in Bluffton is in charge
of arrangements.
Josephine Hirshey, 92
Services for Josephine Hirshey, 92 of Berne will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the
Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva. She died Thursday, April 1 at Chalet Village
Health Care Center in Berne. Calling hours are Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral
home.

David L. Roberts, 61
Services for David L. Roberts, 61, Bluffton, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the
Bluffton North Apostolic Christian Church. He died at 7:37 p.m. Sunday, April 4 at the
Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
A native of Quakertown, Pa., he was born Sept. 12, 1942 to Lawrence J. and Emily Popp
Roberts. He married Carolyn Gerber on May 16, 1974 in Bluffton; she survives.
He was a meat cutter at the Gerber Market and was a licensed realtor with Chalet Realty in
Bluffton, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Apostolic Christian
Church.
Other survivors include a son, David E. Roberts of St. Louis, Mo.; and two brothers,
Lawrence Roberts of Quakertown, Pa., and Phillip Roberts of Philadelphia, Pa.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Goodwin
Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, and for one hour prior to the services Thursday at the
church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Preferred memorials to the church's
charity fund.
Forrest Ramseyer, 68 - Rites Pending
Forrest "Sonny" Ramseyer, 68, died at 5:07 p.m. Sunday, April 4 at McAllen
Medical Center in McAllen, Tex. Rites are pending at Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton.
Donald D. Settle, 70 - Rites Pending
Arrangements are pending at Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton for Donald D. Settle, 70,
who died Saturday at his residence in Punta Gorda, Fla.
Mary C. Moser, 91
Services for Mary C. Moser, 91, of Bluffton, were held this morning at the Apostolic
Christian Church East. She died at 10:55 p.m. Friday, April 2 at Christian Care Center in
Bluffton.
Born in Paulding County, Ohio on May 10, 1912 to Henry E. and Bertha May Kaehr
Reimschisel, she married Ivan L. Moser on May 20, 1937 in Wells County; he died June 3,
1950.
She was a lifelong farmer and worked at the Dutch Mill restaurant for over 20 years. She
was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church East.
Survivors include three sons, Steve Moser of Ossian, Dallas Moser of Daytona Beach, Fla.,
and DeWayne Moser of Fort Wayne; one daughter, Diane Kay Wolfe of Bluffton; 11
grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Lynn; a
grandchild; three brothers and three sisters.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Preferred memorials to Christian Care Retirement
Community. Arrangements were handled by Goodwin Memorial Chapel, Bluffton.
William E. Bell, 89
The father of Linda Shaw of Liberty Center, William E. Bell, 89, of rural Decatur, died at
9:05 a.m. Sunday, April 4 at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Born in Piggott, Ark. on Dec. 10, 1914 to Clarence E. and Lennie Underwood Bell, he worked
at Krick & Tyndall in Decatur and was a custodian at Adams County Memorial Hospital.
Other survivors include a son, Gerald Harmon of Enterprise, Okla.; a daughter, Shirley
Davis of Piggott, Ark.; a brother, Earnest Bell of Piggott, Ark.; a sister, Martha Blalock
of Paragould, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by his wife, Letha, who died Mar. 4, 2004; and a son, William Bell, Jr.
Visitation hours are today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home in
Decatur. Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Irby Funeral Home in Piggott, Ark.,
with calling there for two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in the Piggott
Cemetery.
Marguerite Allen, 92
Formerly of Markle, Marguerite Allen 92, died Saturday, April 3 at the Falling Waters
Health Center in Strongsville, Ohio. A homemaker, she was the wife of the late Neil
Allen.
Survivors include two daughters, Luann Engelmann of Fairfield, Conn., and Barbara Lauer of
Cleveland, Ohio; a son, Maurice Allen of Traverse City, Mich.; seven grandchildren and
eight great grandchildren.
Calling will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Markle
Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with interment to be
in Markle Cemetery.
Velta B. Pursifull, 93
The mother of Marlene Eschenbacher of Yoder, Velta B. Pursifull, 93, formerly of
Huntington County, died at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 4 at her daughter's home in Yoder.
Born in Tipton County on Feb. 22, 1911 to Addison and Elizabeth Puckett Redman, she
married Cedric N. Pursifull on Feb. 16, 1931 in Kentucky; he died Dec. 16, 1966.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Hills Baptist Church in Kirkland.
Other survivors include four sons, William of Huntington, Ted of Weiser, Idaho, David of
Rochester, and Gary of Greentown; a second daughter, Betty Keller of Vero Beach, Fla; 39
grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in
death by a daughter, Wanda Lee Pursifull, and 15 brothers and sisters.
Visitation hours are Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service, which
will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel. Burial will be
at the Emmanuel Cemetery in Wells County. Preferred memorials to the Visiting Nurse
Service and Hospice.

Donald Dwight Settle, 70
A resident of rural Keystone and a native of Wells County, Donald Dwight Settle, 70, died
Saturday, April 3 at Punta Gorda, Fla.
He was a truck driver for Lassus Brothers Oil Co., retiring in 1995. He also was formerly
employed with Automatic Sprinkler of Monroe. A member of the Domestic Church of Christ, he
served with the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and was a member of American Legion Post 111
in Bluffton.
Born Aug. 27, 1933 in Wells County to Clifford and Lela French Settle, he is survived by a
daughter, Catherine Ann Settle of Atlanta, Ga., and a companion, Susan Pinkerton of
Bluffton.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel, where
calling will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Six Mile Cemetery.
Preferred memorials to donor's choice.

Devin Alexander Lhamon, 12 Days
Services will be at 12 noon Friday at the Hillcrest Church of the Nazarene for Devin
Alexander Lhamon, 12-day-old son of Jeffrey Lynn and Stephanie Michelle Lindhorst Lhamon
of Warren. The infant, who was born in Bluffton on March 24, 2004, died at11:10 p.m.
Monday, April 5, 2004, at St.Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Pastor Bill Keen will officiate for the service. Calling will be from 3 to 9 p.m.Thursday
and from 11 a.m. to 12 noon Friday at the Hillcrest Church of the Nazarene.
Glancy Funeral Homes-H. Brown & Son Chapel at Warren is in charge of arrangements.

Forrest E. 'Sunney' Ramseyer, 68
Funeral services for Forrest E. "Sonney" Ramseyer, 68, will be held a 10:30 a.m.
Saturday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel, with Rev. David Crider officiating and burial to be
in Miller Cemetery in Chester Township.
Calling at the funeral home will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m.
Mr. Ramseyer, a native of Wells County, died April 4, at McAllen Medical Center in
McAllen, Tex.
A truck driver for over 25 years, he had retired from Peyton's Northern in1998 after
12 years of service. Formerly a Wells County resident, he had resided in Middlebury.
Born Dec. 2, 1935 to Harry and Violet Slater Ramseyer, his marriage on April 7, 1964 in
Wells County was to Carolyn J. Rains, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Rusty Ramseyer of Des Moines, Ia., a daughter, Vickie Hall of
Keystone, 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are four
brothers, Arthur Ramseyer, DeWayne "Oscar" Ramseyer and Dale Slater of Bluffton
and Norman Ramseyer of Montpelier; two sisters, Mrs. Roger (Velma) Grover and Mrs. Kai
(Shirley) Berry both of Keystone.
Preceding him in death were three sons, Timothy, Jack and Forrest Jr., and a brother,
James Ramseyer.
Preferred memorials are to the family.
Douglas D. Schindler, 69
A retired International Harvester employee, Douglas D. Schindler, 69, of Ossian, died
Tuesday, April 6 at the IU Medical Center in Indianapolis from complications of multiple
system failures.
Mr. Schindler was a safety director for the aviation center at International Harvester,
where he was employed for 43 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the
Korean War.
Born Dec. 7, 1934 in Berne to Harold and Velma Schindler, he and his wife, Judy A., were
married June 7, 1956 in Berne. She survives.
Additional survivors are the mother in Berne; a son, Daryl D. Schindler of Frankfort; a
daughter, Cheryl J. Saucedo of Carmel; two brothers, Kent Schindler of Berne and Craig
Schindler of Carlsbad Calif., a sister, Claudia Hill of St. Pete, Fla., three
grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in
Ossian with Rev. Mike Wertenberger officiating and burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. Calling at
the funeral home will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service on
Saturday.

Maxine L. (Paul) Alexander, 84
A former registered nurse at Bluffton Caylor-Nickel Clinic, Maxine L. (Paul) Alexander,
84, of Warren, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 6 at the United Methodist Memorial Home
in Warren.
She graduated from Methodist School of Nursing in Fort Wayne in 1944 and was also a school
nurse for 10 years for the Huntington County Community School Corporation. She was a 1937
graduate of Huntington High School and attended Huntington Church of the Brethren.
Born Jan. 1, 1920 in Huntington to Emery V. and Martha Alice Beaver Paul, her marriage on
Sept. 13, 1942 in Huntington was to Charles Edward Alexander, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Sara) Wigman of Brownsburg and Mrs. Jeff
(Martha Kay) Williams of Warsaw, and four grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m., at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son
Chapel in Warren with Pastor Herbert Edwards officiating and burial in Lancaster Cemetery
in Huntington County.
Calling at the funeral home will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday for one hour
prior to services.
Ardena Burke, 76
Mother of Mrs. Mark (Kay) Jackson of Ossian, Ardena Burke, 76, of Decatur, died Tuesday,
April 6, at Lutheran Hospital.
Born July 15, 1927 in Adams County to Herbert W. and Eulalia Gallmeyer Kirchner, she
married Don Burke Nov. 2, 1947. He survives.
Survivors also include a second daughter, a son, a sister, nine grandchildren and five
great grandchildren.
Services at 10 a.m. Saturday will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur. Burial will
be in the Decatur Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Zwick
and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran.

Clyde R. Miller, 77, of Jackson Township, died at 5:20 a.m. Thursday, April 8 at the
United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren.
Born in Terre Haute on April 29, 1926 to Thomas W. and Mabel L. Uffert Miller, he married
Martha Fern Ballinger on Nov. 13, 1948 in Grant County; she died March 17, 1993.
A graduate of Jackson Township High School, he worked at 3M Corp. in Hartford City and
also farmed in Wells and Blackford Counties. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist
Church where he taught Sunday School, served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a member of
the Millard Brown American Legion Post 156.
Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Gearheart of New Ross, Janice Mattern of Wabash
and Jane Clark of Hartford City; three sons, Dr. Thomas Miller of Noblesville, Larry
Miller of Roanoke and Michael Miller of Hartford City; three sisters, Helen Courter, Mary
King and Patricia Carl, all of Marion; a brother, Paul Miller of Marion ; 16
grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Services will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Asbury United Methodist Church. Calling
hours are today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel in Montpelier
and for one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church. Military graveside rites
will be performed by the American Legion post, with burial in the Asbury Cemetery.

Mary Holloway, 85
A former resident of Wells County, Mary Violetta Herwick Holloway, 85, died Thursday,
April 8 at St. Anthony Health Care Center in Lafayette.
Born in Westerville, Ohio on June 1, 1918, she spent her childhood and youth in Wells
County, graduating from Petroleum High School in 1935. She married Max C. Holloway on Dec.
22, 1940 in Wells County. She and her husband moved to Columbia City in 1950, where they
lived until 2002 when she moved to Lafayette to be closer to her daughter. She was a
special education teacher for 26 years and was instrumental in founding what is now
Passages, Inc. in Columbia City.
She is survived by a daughter, Marcia Holloway of Lafayette; a son, Vance Holloway of
Mishawaka; and two granddaughters. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the
services, which will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral
Home in Columbia City. A committal service and burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at
Stahl Cemetery in Wells County. Preferred memorials to Passages, Inc.
