Molly,
You are required to prove that your ancestor was in a specific county by 31
December of the year the county was formed. There is a list of the Indiana
counties and the date of their formation.
The society is on line at
www.indianapioneers.com and their snail mail
address is listed below:
SOCIETY OF INDIANA PIONEERS
450 WEST OHIO STREET
INDIANAPOLIS, IN 46202-3269
TELEPHONE (317) 233-6588
"To be eligible for membership in the Society of Indiana Pioneers an
applicant must submit proof that at least one ancestor settled in Indiana
before the close of the pioneer period of the county wherein such ancestor
established residence."
I had ancestors in Dubois and Perry Counties by 1820. Dubois was formed in
1825 and Perry was formed in 1825.
Most states have a First Families Society. I am also a member of the Pioneer
Families of IL and the First Families of Ohio.
