Doing a little more follow-up, I found this bio on Benjamin C. Batson. Don't believe
we are related. Bio follows:
Biographical sketch extracted from:
Biographical and historical record of Adams and Wells counties, Indiana. Chicago: Lewis
Publishing Co., 1887. p. 814.
BENJAMIN C. BATSON is a native of Wells County, Indiana, born in Jackson Township,
November 14, 1847, son of Nathaniel and Nancy (Ralston) Batson. He was reared in his
native township, on the home farm, his youth being passed in assisting with the work of
the farm and attending the district schools. March 7, 1867, he was united in marriage to
Miss Alice Davis, a native of Highland County, Ohio, born November 5, 1847, a daughter of
Samuel and Margaret (Cloud) Davis. Of the four children born to this union one son, Lewis
Benjamin, is deceased. The names of those yet living are—Henry S., James C. and Alice
Emily. Mr. Batson lived on the old homestead with his parents for eight years after his
marriage, when he settled on his present farm on section 11 of Jackson Township. His land
at that time was in a wild state, heavily covered with timber, and entirely unimproved. Of
his sixty acres he has cleared about thirty-five acres which he has brought under
cultivation, and ha!
s erected his present residence and other buildings besides making other substantial
improvements on his place. Mr. and Mrs. Batson are members of the Christian church. In
politics he casts his suffrage with the Democratic party, his father having also been a
life-long Democrat.
