Stanley Johnson, 49
Stanley Johnson, 49, Bluffton, died at 10:35 a.m. Friday, April 30 at Bluffton Regional
Medical Center. Calling hours have been set for Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Thoma/Rich,
Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home, with services scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the
funeral home. A complete obituary will appear in Monday’s edition of The News-Banner.
Frieda Thiele, 96 — Rites Pending
Frieda Thiele, 96, died Friday, April 30 at Ossian Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Services are pending at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian.
Dorothy L. Covey, 62
The mother of John Ellwood of Bluffton, Dorothy L. Covey, 62, of Hartford City, died
Wednesday, April 28 at her residence.
Born in 1941 in Alderson, West Virginia to Carl and Dorothy Phillips., she graduated from
Minerva (Ohio) High School in 1959 and was a graduate of the Jane Skinner Modeling
Academy. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the VFW in Minerva and the Moose Lodge
in Bluffton.
In addition to the son in Bluffton, she is survived by her husband, Frank Covey; a
daughter, June Doublin of Hartford City; two step daughters, Kim Underwood and Kelli
Gunder, both of Fort Wayne; a step-son, Jon Covey of Fort Wayne; three sisters, Stella
Mackey of East Canton, Ohio; Pat Charles of Hartford City and Betty Patrick of Phoenix,
Ariz.; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501
North State Road 3, Muncie. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.
Burial will be conducted at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Stanley D. Johnson, 49
Stanley D. “Stan” Johnson, 49, Bluffton, died suddenly of a heart attack at 10:35 a.m.
Friday, April 30 at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Born in Bluffton on Nov. 25, 1954 to Eugene L. and Helen I. Diehl Johnson, he married Tara
Jervis on July 17, 1999 in Reno, Nev.; she survives.
He graduated from Norwell High School in 1973 and served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 20
years. After retirement in 1993 from the military he worked in telecommunications and was
currently employed at Parlor City Country Club. He was a past Exalted Ruler of Bluffton
Elks Lodge 796 and was a member of the American Legion Post 111.
Other survivors include his mother, of Bluffton; two sons, Aaron Johnson of Boulder, Colo.
and Brian Johnson of Longbeach, Calif.; two stepchildren, Anthony Costa of Sheriville and
Alexandra Costa, at home; five brothers, Thomas Johnson of Bluffton, Steven Johnson of
Elkhart, David Johnson of Coarsegold, Calif., Timothy Johnson of Indianapolis and Dennis
Johnson of Fresno, Calif.; and two sisters, Debra Gabbard of Kendallville and Janice
Wagoner of Norwich, N.Y.
Calling hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home,
with services to begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Mike Gilbert officiating. There
will be an Elks Memorial Service at 7 p.m. this evening and military gravesite rites will
be performed by the American Legion Post 111.
Burial will be in the Garden of Chimes at Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton. Preferred
memorials to the Stan Johnson Memorial Fund.
Frieda Thiele, 96
Frieda Thiele, 96, Ossian, died Friday, April 30 at the Ossian Health & Rehabilitation
Center.
She was born in Adams County on June 13, 1907. A homemaker, she was a member of the St.
Mark’s Lutheran Church, the W.E.L.C.A. and the St. Mark’s Senior Club.
Survivors include four daughters, Martha Bauermeister of Ossian, Ruth Metzger of South
Whitley, Norma Schaefer of Arcola, and Mary Lou Bearman of New Haven; four sons, Edward H.
Thiele, Jr. and Donald Thiele, both of Fort Wayne, Richard Thiele of Austin, Texas and
Kenneth Thiele of Alexandria, Minn.; a sister, Edna Werling of Bend, Ore.; 18
grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. Thiele, Sr. on June 11, 1984 and by a
son, Karl Thiele in 1959.
Services were held today at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. Preferred
memorials to the Hand Bell Choir Fund or Lutheran Social Services. Elzey-Patterson-Rodak
Funeral Home in Ossian was in charge of arrangements.
Paul D. Habegger, Sr., 71
Paul David Habegger, Sr., 71, rural Geneva, died at 8:50 a.m. Saturday, May 1 at his home.
Born in Rochester on April 1, 1933 to Edgar E. and Savilla Mae Roth Habegger, he married
Phyllis Ann Hinkle on June 19, 1966 in Adams County; she survives.
An Adams County farmer for many years, he retired from Sprint United Telephone in 1992
after 38 years of service. He was a licensed pilot and a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army
from 1954 to 1956. He attended Six Mile Church in Bluffton and had been a member of the
First Mennonite Church in Berne for many years.
Other survivors include three sons, Philip L. Habegger of Bluffton, Paul D. Habegger, Jr.
of Geneva, and Justin J. Habegger of Decatur; a daughter, Hollie A. Gilly of Bristol, Va.;
two brothers, Benjamin Habegger of Bluffton and Alvin Habegger of Berne; three sisters,
Hannah Amstutz of Berne, Catherine Smith of Geneva, and Sarabelle Amstutz of Granada
Hills, Calif.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick J.
Habegger; two brothers, Howard L. and Chester Habegger; and a sister, Eldonna Amstutz.
Calling hours are this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the
Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva. Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at
the funeral home, with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery at Linn Grove. Preferred memorials
to the Samaritan’s Purse through the Billy Graham Crusades.
Kay Sue Uncapher, 62
Kay Sue Uncapher, 62, of Warren, died at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 1 at her home.
Born in Huntington County on Sept. 1, 1941 to Raymond W. and June B. Brown Fisher, she
married Billie E. Uncapher on June 14, 2003; he survives.
A 1959 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School, she was a homemaker and a member of
the Lighthouse Assembly of God in Gas City.
Other survivors include four sons, Kirk Heyde, Todd Heyde and Lance Heyde, all of Warren,
and Derek Daggett; two daughters, Stacy Kellam of Liberty Center and Marsha Heyde of
Warren; and 14 grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son
Chapel in Warren with Pastor Todd Thomas officiating. Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 to
8 p.m. and Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Mt. Hope
Cemetery, Huntington.
Preferred memorials to the church or the American Cancer Society.

Mary M. Hunnicutt, 79
Mary M. Hunnicutt, 79, a former Huntington resident and the daughter of an Ossian woman,
died Sunday, May 2 at the home of a daughter in Yuma, Ariz.
She was retired as a chief installment loan officer for the AEA Credit Union and was a
member of the Insurance Women of America, the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainsmen Auxiliary,
and was a founding member of the AEA Credit Union No. 2
Born Sept. 8, 1924 in Huntington to Fred B. and Mildred Anson Pence, she was a 1943
graduate of Huntington High School.
Survivors include her mother, Mildred Pence, of Ossian, a brother, Charles F. Pence of
Huntington, a daughter, Judi Lacy of Yuma a grandson and four great grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her father and her husband, William A. Hunnicutt.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel.
There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service, which will be officiated by Dr.
Gary Newton. Interment will be in Union Cemetery in Huntington County.
Preferred memorials to any Hospice organization or the donor’s choice.
