Mathias Kaehr Claimed by Death
Well known farmer east of Bluffton passed away Saturday evening
Mathias Kaehr, aged 67, a well known farmer, residing east of Bluffton, passed away
Saturday evening after an extended innless with dropsy and kindred ailments. Mr. Kaehr had
been failing for a year and for several months had been failing quite rapidly. His
relatives have been aware for some time that he had but little chance for recovery.
Mr. Kaehr was born in Switzerland on December 7, 1848, the son of Jacob and Magdalina
(Strohm) Kaehr. He came to America early in life with the others of his family and has
been a resident of this community almost continuously since his immigration, and of Wells
County since 1870. He was married in Wells County on July 8, 1870, to Miss Mary Aschleman
and to them were born the following children: John M. Kaehr, Adams County; Samuel Kaehr,
Adams County; Mrs. Henry Reimschisel, Paulding, Ohio; Mrs. Fred Isch, deceased; Mrs.
Joseph Gerber, Wells County; Jacob Kaehr, Adams County; Daniel Kaehr, Adams County; Joel
L. Kaehr, Adams County; Priscilla Kaehr, deceased; Joseph Kaehr, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and
Reuben Kaehr, of Detroit.
John Kaehr, of this county, is a brother, and Mrs. John Moser and Mrs. Joseph Baumgardner
are two half-sisters. A brother and two sisters have preceded Mr. Kaehr in death, namely
Samuel Kaehr, Mrs. Benedict Mosure, and Mrs. Simeon Aschliman.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock at the Christian
Apostolic Church north of Vera Cruz, and the interment will be at the cemetery adjoining
the church.
