Death Summons John P. Strohm
Retired Rural Mail Carrier Died at his Home at Craigville
John P. Strohm, 76, a lifelong resident of Wells county, well known citizen of Craigville,
died at his home at 2 o'clock this morning, of infirmities attendent on his advanced
years. He had been sick since May 17th.
For many years Mr. Strohm had been a prominent figure in his home community. He was one of
the first rural carriers in the county, having served on the Craigville route over a long
period of years. He retired from the postal service some years ago.
Mr. Strohm was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Strohm and was born in this county on March 4,
1854, and at his death was aged 76 years four months and 24 days.
His marriage to Cecelia Barger took place in Adams county on August 25, 1877. Her death
occurred in January 15, 1929.
Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Strohm, of whom four survive. They are John W.
Strohm, of Alameda, Cal.; Henry Strohm, of Indianapolis; Mrs. J. A. Schwartz of
Craigville; and Mrs. Ray Wolf, of Tocsin. Two children, William and Ida preceded their
parents in death. One sister, Mrs. Anna Saurer of Craigville, survives. One sister, Mrs.
Elizabeth Leyse, is dead.
Burial services will be held at the U. B. church at Craigville at ten o'clock
Wednesday forenoon, in charge of Rev. Pugh.
Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.
