Bluffton Evening News, March 5, 1928
John Neuenschwander, 70, died at 6 o'clock Sunday evening at his home about three
miles east of Bluffton, following an illness of six months.
He was born in Adams County November 15, 1857, a son of Ulrich Neuenschwander and
Elizabeth Steffen Neuenschwander, natives of Switzerland, and at his death was aged 70
years, three months and nineteen days. He was a farmer by occupation, but had retired from
active farm labor previous to his fatal illness. He had spent the greater part of his life
in Wells county.
His marriage to Miss Mary Barger took place August 16, 1879. She survives, with five
children, namely, Mrs. Della Kaehr and Mrs. Roy Crum, of Fort Wayne; William and Lavern
Neuenschwander and Mrs. William Gerber of Wells county. One daughter, Mrs. Samuel Gerber
is dead.
Brothers and sisters surviving are Peter, Daniel and Joel Neuenschwander, all of Wells
county; Fred and Sol Neuenschwander, near Ft. Wayne; and Mrs. Samuel Leckner, Adams
county.
There are thirty-one grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon, with services at the home at one o'clock
and at the Christian Apostolic church at 2 o'clock. Burial in the cemetery adjacent to
the church.
