Patricia L. Sutherby, 64
Patricia L. Sutherby, 64, of rural Warren, died at 10:49 a.m. Saturday, Sept 29, at
Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
A homemaker, she was the widow of David Sutherby, who died this past July 14. She had
resided in the area since her marriage in 1963.
Mrs. Sutherby was a member of the Mt. Hope Lutheran Church in Dearborn, Mich.
She was born at Angola March 13, 1937 to Paul and Pauline Peters Homen. Her marriage to
David Sutherby took place Nov. 26, 1963 in Lincoln Park, Ill.
Mrs. Sutherby is survived by two sons, David Beers of Bluffton and Lance R. Sutherby of
Warren; four daughters, Mrs. Terry (Roxanne) Christianson of Bluffton, Sherry Lou Sutherby
of Huntington, Mrs. Don (Sherrie) Motes of Charksville, Tenn., and Crystal Henderson of
Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Sue Jenkins of Fort Wayne; a brother, Richard P. Homen of
Oakview, Calif; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton with Rev. Scott
Meier officiating and burial will be in Six Mile Cemetery. Visitation hours at the funeral
chapel are today from 2 to 8 p.m.

Myrl L. Fyson, 95
Myrl L. Fyson, 95, in ill health the past five weeks, died at 11 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at
her rural Bluffton residence.
She was a clerk at the former Burger Milk Store and was a member of the Prairie Church and
a past president of the USFW Women’s Organization.
Born in Huntington County, she had resided in Wells County since 1941.
She was born Dec. 10, 1905 to Joseph D. and Arminda M. Smith Creviston. Her marriage at
Huntington on Feb. 17, 1925 was to Ralph K. Fyson, who died April 20, 1986.
Surviving are two grandsons, David Mason of Fort Wayne and Randy Mason of Bluffton; two
granddaughters, Mrs. Marvin (Joyce) Crull of Poneto and Mrs. Cary (Judy) Stewart of
Bluffton; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Larry (Betty) Arnold of Bluffton; eight
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A son, Carl, died in 1981. She was
preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home
with Pastor Lenny Springer officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday for one
hour prior to services.

Harmon D. Wiley, 85
Harmon D. Wiley, 85, a retired bank manager, died at 5:50 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at the
United Methodist Home in Warren.
He was a manager at Merchants National Bank Indianapolis before retiring in 1981. After
retirement, he worked for 10 years in real estate for Meid Compton in Indianapolis.
Mr. Wiley was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from April 10, 1942 to Nov. 8,
1945.
He was a graduate of Warren High School and Indiana University and was a member of the
First Baptist Church in Warren and American Legion Post 34 in Indianapolis.
He also enjoyed flying a Piper-Tri Pacer and a Mooney aircraft.
Mr. Wiley was born in Huntington County March 11, 1916 to Fred R. and Ada Day Wiley. His
marriage on Jan. 1, 1945 at Amboy was to Joan Lamb, who survives at Warren.
Additional survivors are a son, Rex Wiley of Indianapolis; a sister, Jeri Daugherty of
Marion; a brother, Richard Wiley of El Segundo, Calif.; and a granddaughter. A sister and
four brothers are deceased.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel,
in Warren, with Rev. John Bellante officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at
Warren.
Calling hours at the funeral chapel will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials
to the Eye Bank of Indianapolis.
William S. Bourne, 59
William S. Bourne, 59, who formerly worked for the Hickory Hills Golf Course in Bluffton,
died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 29, at his rural Pennville residence following a long
illness.
He was a 1959 graduate of Pennville High School and a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle
Church and Sons of the American Legion, both in Hartford City, and the Moose Lodge in
Portland.
Mr. Bourne had lived in Hartford City from 1995 to 1998 before moving to the Pennville
area.
He was born in Portland Sept. 30, 1941, the son of Sanford and Cora Denney Bourne. His
marriage on Dec. 17, 1995 was to Nancy L. Zelonis, who survives.
Additional survivors are his parents, who reside in rural Pennville; a son, Tait Byrd of
Bluffton; two daughters, Mrs. Tim (Melanie) Illig of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Jerry (Maria)
Coleman of Portland; a sister, Mrs. Jim (Linda L.) Crockett of St. Louis, Mo.; and five
grandchildren.
Services at the Pennville Chapel of Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home will be at 11 a.m.
Tuesday with Pastor Dan Porter officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery at
Montpelier.
Calling hours are today from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Leslie J. ‘Bud’ Cargar, 86
A retired Rockcreek Township, Wells County, farmer, Leslie J. “Bud” Cargar, 86, died at
12:50 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the home of a daughter in Marion following an extended
illness.
Mr. Cargar, who formerly resided in Huntington, worked for many years at Caswell-Runyon
and for Memcor, both in Huntington.
He was a 1932 graduate of Rockcreek High School in Wells County and attended both the
Trinity United Methodist Church in Marion and the Westview Wesleyan Church in Jonesboro.
He was born Nov. 11, 1914 in Wells County, a son of Jesse R. and Elnora Burley Cargar. A
first marriage on June 24, 1938 at Ludlow Falls, Ohio, was to Helen I. Eubank, who died
June 7, 1969; his second marriage in Liberty Center on June 20, 1970 was to Edith
Stickler, whose death occurred Sept. 9, 2000.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Cheryl) Edris of Marion; a stepson, Larry Smith of
Mooresville, Tenn.; three grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Rev.
Charles McCallum and Rev. Ermal Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Sparks Cemetery
in Wells County.
Visitation hours at the funeral chapel are today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials to
the Grant County Cancer Society.

Linda ‘Kay’ Lassiter, 55
Formerly a resident of Ossian, Linda “Kay” Lassiter, 55, of Inverness, Fla., died Sept. 20
in Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.
She had moved from Ossian to Inverness in 1982.
Mrs. Lassiter was born in DeFuniak Springs, Fla., a daughter of Alvis and Ella Lee
Gillman. The mother survives and resides in Inverness.
Surviving also are her husband, Wayne; a son, Keith A. Lassiter, a daughter, Sheila K.
Lassiter, and a brother, Donald Gillman, all of Inverness; a sister, Barbara Cecil of
Peninsula, Ohio; and a brother-in-law, James Lassiter of Ossian.
A memorial service was held Sept. 25 at Heinz Funeral Home in Inverness.
Memorials to Hospice of Citrus County, Fla., or to Key Training Center.
Arrangements locally were handled by Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Homes Ossian Chapel.
Kenneth W. Saalfrank, 78
Father of Kathleen J. Brehm of Ossian, Kenneth W. Saalfrank, 78, of Fort Wayne, died
Saturday, Sept. 29, at Riverbend Health Care Center at Fort Wayne.
Born in Fort Wayne, he retired in 1984 as a lineloader from General Electric Co. after 42
1/2 years.
Mr. Saalfrank was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving, in addition to the daughter at Ossian, are his wife, Gwendolyn; a son, Douglas
L. of Lawton, Okla; another daughter, Julie Obunger of Chandler, Ariz.; two sisters, Ruth
Plummer and Lois Kokosa, both of For Wayne; a brother, Howard C. of Dearborn, Mich.; two
stepsons, Jerry Pieper and Joseph Pieper, both of Fort Wayne; two stepdaughters, Judi
Krider of Fort Wayne and Janet Leatherman of Avilla; three grandchildren; 16
stepgrandchildren; and 17 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, 2313 South Hanna St., Fort
Wayne, where calling hours will be for 90 minutes prior to services. Burial will be in
Concordia Cemetery Gardens.
Visitation hours also will be Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at D.O. McComb &
Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Rd., Fort Wayne.

Bonita Rodgers, 69
Bonita Rodgers, 69, of Huntington, mother of Larry “Bud” Rodgers of Craigville, died at
4:26 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Miller’s Merry Manor at Huntington.
Mrs. Rodgers was a 1950 graduate of Pine Bluff High School in Arkansas. She was a member
of VFW Post 2689 Women’s Auxiliary and a member and past worthy matron of the Order of the
Eastern Star.
She was born in Pine Bluff Oct. 15, 1931, a daughter of Herman and Norma Raines Baker. Her
marriage at Markle on Feb. 17, 1951 was to Loy D. Rodgers, who survives.
Other survivors, in addition to her husband and the son at Craigville, are a daughter,
Mrs. Dennis (Sharon) Bowman of Huntington; a stepbrother, Toney M. Dalby of White Hall,
Ark.; a stepsister, Martha Lynn, also of Arkansas; nine grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel and
interment will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Huntington County.
Visitation hours at the funeral chapel will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Floy L. Dollar, 62
Funeral services for Floy L. Dollar, 62, of Montpelier, will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday at Glancy Funeral Homes Walker Chapel in Montpelier.
Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m.
Mrs. Dollar died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
She had worked for 21 years for Sheller Globe in Montpelier.
Mrs. Dollar was a 1957 graduate of Montpelier High School and attended Ball State
University at Muncie. She was a graduate of Ivy Tech with honors with an associate degree
as a medical assistant technologist.
She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church at Montpelier, Psi Iota Xi Sorority and a
former member of the Moose Lodge at Hartford City.
She was born in Beech Grove, Ind., March 19, 1939, to John Walter and Lorraine Davis
Smith. Her father and a daughter, Judith Jacobs, are deceased.
Surviving are her mother, Lorraine Smith of Roll; two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Tami) Gipson
of Hartford City and Mrs. David (Dawn) Cole of Portland; two sons, Jeff Dollar of
Indianapolis and Walter Dollar of Montpelier; a brother, John O’Dell Smith of
Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. David (Laura) Morgan of Roll; 12 grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
Officiating at funeral services Saturday will be Dennis Clouse and burial will be in
Brookside Memorial Park at Montpelier.

Glenna W. Feltt, 94
Glenna W. Feltt, 94, formerly of Keystone, died at 8:55 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at
Meadowvale Health & Rehabilitation in Bluffton, where she had been a resident since
the past May.
Mrs. Feltt worked for the Montpelier Glove Co., starting the first year the factory was
opened in 1937 and retiring in 1991. She also was the former owner of Feltt's Grocery
in Keystone.
She was a member of the Friends Church in Keystone, where she served as a Sunday school
teacher and in various offices, including assistant pianist.
She was born in Wells County May 19, 1907 to Martin and Phona Myrtle Ellison Keesling. Her
marriage at Keystone was William H. “Ted” Feltt, to whom she was married 66 years. She
attended the schools at Keystone.
Surviving are a daughter, Joan Lodge of Marion; three sons, Wayne of Bluffton, and Don and
Robert “Duke”, both of Montpelier; a sister, Nina Ellis of Greentown; 13 grandchildren; 27
great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Five sisters, a brother and a
granddaughter are deceased.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Glancy Funeral Homes Walker Chapel in Montpelier with
Rev. Jack Littlefield officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery at Keystone.
Visitation hours at the funeral chapel will be Saturday from 3 to 8 p.m.
Blanche E. Stears Barnard, 87
A native of Bluffton, Blanche E. Stears Barnard, 87, of White Pigeon, Mich., died Sept. 26
at the home of her son in Constantine, Mich.
She was born in Bluffton Feb. 13, 1914 to Daniel and Millie Arnold Captain and graduated
in 1935 from Bluffton High School. A first marriage at Bluffton on June 1, 1935 was to
Harold Everett Stears, who died Dec. 31, 1975; her second marriage in Constantine on Jan.
6, 1979 was to William Barnard Sr., who survives.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Constantine, where she taught Sunday school
and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Florence Country
Club and the White Pigeon Grange.
Other survivors are the son, Robert; two daughters, Joyce Newton of Grand Rapids, Mich.,
and Mrs. Malcolm (Janet) Outman of Constantine; a stepson; 9 grandchildren; 17
great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and many stepgreat-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren. Two brothers and two stepsons are deceased. Services were held
Sept. 29 at the Eley Funeral Home in Constantine and burial was in Constantine Cemetery.
Nelda E. James, 95
Nelda E. James, 95, of Dunkirk, died Thursday, Oct. 4, at Ball Memorial Hospital in
Muncie.
A native of Huntington County, she attended Warren High School and was a member of the
Bethel United Methodist Church at Dunkirk and its Ladies Aid, of which she was a past
president, the Missionary Society and president of the Willing Workers Sunday school
class.
Mrs. James was born March 11, 1906 to Lloyd and Myrtle Clingenpeel Stroup. Her husband,
Roger James, preceded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. John (Lois) Retter of Dunkirk, Sandra J. Miller of
Hartford City and Mrs. Barry (Joyce A.) Powers of Crown Point; three sons, Gary of Albany,
LoWayne of Bradenton, Fla., and Larry D. of Dunkirk; 13 grandchildren; 3
stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 4 stepgreat-grandchildren. A son, Roger, a
brother and a granddaughter are deceased.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Bethel United Methodist Church with Pastors
Fred Kellogg and John Summers officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery at
Dunkirk.
Calling hours at the Lightner Funeral Home in Dunkirk will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to
8 p.m. Memorials to the church.
Clark E. Hipsher, 74
Father of Rick E. Hipsher of Zanesville, Clark E. Hipsher, 74, of Fort Wayne, died
Thursday, Oct. 4, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He was a switchman for Norfolk & Western, retiring in 1988 after 36 years. He also
owned and operated a hauling company in the 1950s. He was born in Van Wert, Ohio.
Surviving, in addition the son, are his wife, Alice L.; three daughters, Alice Van, Ruth
Hipsher and Vicki Duncan, all of Fort Wayne; three foster daughters, Bonnie Wirt of Fort
Wayne, Diane Kendall of North Carolina and Brenda Maxfield of Kendallville; two foster
sons, Bill Fagan of Yoder and David Wirt of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Barbara Helmke of
Fort Wayne and Joan Havert of Magazine, Ark.; 25 grandchildren; and 22
great-grandchildren.
Services at 10:30 a.m. Monday will be at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak home for Funerals, 6810 Old
Trail Rd., Fort Wayne, where calling hours will be Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Sunday
from 2 to 6 p.m. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery. Memorials to Apostolic Jesus Name
Church in Fort Wayne, to Parkison’s Disease Association, or to Southern Care Hospice.
Crystal V. Johnson, 96
Crystal V. Johnson, 96, of Ossian, died Sunday, Sept. 30, at Bluffton Regional Medical
Center. A homemaker, she is survived by a son, James B. of Naperville. Her husband,
Harold, died in 1959.
There will be no services or calling hours. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery at New
Haven.
Arrangements are by Tom Mungovan Funeral Home in Fort Wayne.
