I haven't posted to this list for a while because I am up against a "brick
wall" with my RICHARDS. My gt.gt grandfather, Eli RICHARDS was born in Wells Co, IN
in 1841. He died of typhoid at the end of the Civil War (15th MI Infantry). Anyway, I
believe his father is Lewis RICHARDS for a number of reasons. I find Lewis in Wells Co
in 1840, but then I lose him until he remarrys at the age of 62 in 1867 in Berrien Co, MI.
He marries a 19 yr. old, Frances Ponless from Indiana and his witness is the widow of Eli.
Does anyone have a clue as to where he could be found. 1850 census would be perfect as I
believe Eli would be at home (age 9) and would be listed. I have looked in MI, IN, IL, and
OH and VA (where Lewis was born) census today and came up empty. By the way, Lewis'
first wife was named Elizabeth. Don't know her maiden name. Would appreciate help, if
it available. Mary in Michigan
