Richard H. Cook, 66
A farmer in Wells, Adams, and Blackford counties, Richard H. Cook, 66, rural Montpelier,
died at 3:25 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
Born in Adams County on Sept. 30, 1938, to George and Blanche Nevil Cook, his marriage in
Landess, was on Dec. 15, 1956, to Joyce Myers, who survives.
Additional survivors include four sons, Ronald of Montpelier; Rock of Dunkirk; Randall of
Keystone; and Rick of Montpelier; four daughters, Mrs. Tim (Rachel) Sills of Dunkirk; Mrs.
Bill (Renee) Collier of Pennville; and Rolella Cook and Robin Cook of Montpelier; two
brothers, Marvin Cook of Geneva and Carl “Bill” Cook of Angola; one sister, Peggy Bowman
of Angola; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Rory Cook; two brothers, Jim and Fred Cook; and a
grandson.
Glancy Funeral Homes - Walker Chapel in Montpelier is handling the arrangements. There
will be no visitation or funeral services.

Helen J. Overholt-Clements, 85
Mother of Mrs. Ron (Janet) DeWitt of rural Bluffton, Helen J. Overholt-Clements, 85, of
Huntington, died at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Miller’s Merry Manor.
Retired in 1989 from David Culp Company where she had worked for over 22 years, Mrs.
Clements also was a seamstress. She was a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church, a
lifetime member of the P.T.A. of Huntington County and had served on the Huntington City
School Board. Also, she was a member and past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star
Floral Chapter #75 and a member of the Child Welfare Club, Current Events Club and
Business & Professional Women’s Club, all of Huntington. A 1937 graduate of Jefferson
Center High School in Whitley County, she earned a secretarial degree from International
Business College in Fort Wayne.
She was born April 1, 1919, in Allen County, a daughter of Ben and Blanche DeMoney Clark.
Her first marriage was in Whitley County on June 8, 1940 to Earl R. Overholt, who preceded
her in death on Nov. 2, 1971. She then married James E. Clements on May 1, 1993, in
Huntington, and he preceded her in death on March 28, 2003.
Surviving, in addition to the Bluffton daughter, are a son, Larry D. Overholt of Aurora,
Ohio; another daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Kay) Mills of Pensacola, Fla.; a step-son, Jerin
Clements of Huntington; a step-daughter, Mrs. Larry (Sharon) Sprowl of Huntington; one
brother, Joe Clark of Fort Wayne, one sister, Fay Mills of Leesburg, Fla.; 7
grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 6
step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Bolinger, and a
brother, Dale Clark.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary in Huntington with
Order of Eastern Star twilight service at 6 p.m. The funeral service will be at the
funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Marti Lundy officiating. Burial will be in
Gardens of Memory, Huntington County. Memorials to Evangelical United Methodist Church,
Miller’s Merry Manor or donor’s choice.
Edna Amanda Menter, 92
Mother of Don. A. Menter and Mrs. James (Marge) Merriman, both of Preble, Edna Amanda
Menter, 92, of Preble, died at 2:20 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2005, at Woodcrest Nursing
Center in Adams County.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble; a charter member of the Ladies Aid,
a member of the Lutheran Women Missionary League, ONO Homemakers Club and Senior Citizens
Club of Adams County. She was a homemaker.
Born September 28, 1912, at Preble, she was a daughter of Charles and Bertha Bleeke
Kirchner. Her marriage was on April 23, 1933, in the St. Paul Church at Preble to Carl W.
Menter, who died July 14, 1998.
Surviving in addition to the son and daughter at Preble, are a brother, Edward Kirchner of
Preble, a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Macke of Decatur; 7 grandchildren; 17
great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one
great-grandchild.
Visitation is today from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home,
Decatur, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. The funeral service
will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble, with Rev. Daniel Brege
officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Preble. Memorials to
Wyneken Lutheran School or Indiana Down Syndrome Foundation.

Warren United Methodist Memorial Home.
Fred E. Humphrey Jr., 75
Former Bluffton resident Fred E. Humphrey Jr., 75, of Fort Wayne, died at 8:10 p.m.
Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
A 1947 Bluffton High School graduate and an Indiana University graduate with a bachelor of
science degree, he earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Florida.
He also received his masters degree from Indiana University. He taught English at North
Side High School in Fort Wayne for 17 years, retiring in 1978. He resided in Fort Wayne
since 1964.
Mr. Humphrey was born in Bluffton on March 28, 1929 to Fred E. and Minnie Christine
Newhard Humphrey Sr.
Surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth Humphrey Meintel of Fort Wayne; two sons, David
Humphrey of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Peter Humphrey of Burlington, Ky.; a sister, Cynthia
Donovan of Milwaukee, Wis., and eight grandchildren.
Private family graveside services were held Saturday morning at Fairview Cemetery in
Bluffton with Father Dale Bauman officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Thoma-Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home. Memorials to the Wells
County Creative Arts Council or University of St. Francis School of Art.
Romain A. Fear, 86
Retired from Sheller-Globe in Montpelier, Romain A. Fear, 86, of rural Hartford City, died
at 11:37 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2005, at Blackford Community Hospital, Hartford City.
Born Sept. 21, 1918 at Walkerville, Mich., she was a daughter of Marion and Mae Belle
Nuttal Gray. Her marriage was to Adelma W. Fear on Oct.1, 1938 in Bluffton. He died Nov.
6. 1965. She was a member of the Montpelier First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Janet) Simmons and Joyce Smith, both of Montpelier;
a sister, Garnet Billman of Columbia City; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by two daughters, Jeanne Besser and Linda Gregory; two sisters,
Ardith Abel and Evelyn Kimmel; two brothers, Marvin and Murl Gray, and a grandson, Scott
Fear.
Calling will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Glancy Funeral
Homes - Walker Chapel, Montpelier, where services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor
Doug Askew officiating. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Pennville. Memorials to the
Harrison Township Cancer Society in Blackford County.
Richard M. Hanauer, 82
A brother of G. Joe Hanauer of Markle, Richard M. Hanauer, 82, of Fort Wayne and formerly
of the Zanesville area, died Saturday, March 12, 2005, at Covington Manor Nursing Center,
Fort Wayne.
He was a retired Essex Wire employee and a World War II Navy veteran.
Born Oct. 28, 1922, in Wells County, he was a son of Valentine H. and Frieda R. Jacobs
Hanauer. His marriage was on Nov. 27, 1947, in Decatur to Jean Stanley Hanauer, who
survives.
Surviving, in addition to the wife in Fort Wayne and the Markle brother, are one son, Roy
A. Hanauer of Batavia, Ill.; one daughter, Rebecca S. Hanauer of Arcadia, Ind.; another
brother, John Hanauer of Riverside, Calif.; two sisters, Lois Lothamer of Avilla, Ind.,
and Janice Sollberger of Fort Wayne.
Visitation is today from 3 to 7 p.m. at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, Ossian Chapel,
where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Kaye Patton officiating. Burial
will be in Hoverstock Cemetery, Zanesville. Memorials to the Wells County Humane Society.

Justus P. (Buddy) Webber
A former resident of Bluffton, Justus P. (Buddy) Webber, died Friday, March 11, 2005, at
his home in Bothell, Wash.
He was the son of Justus M. and Mary Painter Webber and the brother of Dorothy (Dot)
Wilkey of Bluffton. Services will be held in the Seattle area.
Virginia Record, 87
A resident of the Warren United Methodist Memorial Home since 1991, Virginia Record, 87,
died at her townhouse Sunday, March 13, at 9:35 a.m.
Born in Cambridge, Ohio, Nov. 29, 1917, to Rev. Frank and Mabel Fordyce Lineberry, she
married Robert Record Sept. 23, 1945 in Elkhart. He preceded her in death Oct. 30, 1964.
Raised in Elkhart, she spent most of her adult life in Frankfort where she served two
terms as the Clinton County Recorder and two terms as the Clinton County Treasurer,
completing her political career in 1981. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist
Church in Elkhart where she served as organist for 37 years. She was the organist at the
chapel of the Methodist Home until her death. She was also a member of Zonta and the Order
of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, Dr. William M. Record of Plymouth, a daughter, Martha Joan Record
of Germantown, Md.; a sister, Helen Nolan of Auburndale, Fla.; four grandchildren and a
great-grandson.
Services at 12 p.m. Wednesday will be held at the United Methodist Memorial Home Chapel
with Pastor Herbert Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in
Frankfort. Calling is one hour prior to services at the chapel.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Memorial Home. Arrangements are in charge of
Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel.
Ruth Lavelle Schweikhardt, 85
Ruth Lavelle Schweikhardt, 85, formerly of Marion, died at the Warren United Methodist
Memorial Home at 7 a.m. Monday, March 14.
Born Aug. 3, 1919 in Van Buren to Milton and Edna Tinsley Williamson, she married Franklin
B. Schweikhardt Dec. 24, 1937 in Marion. He preceded her in death Dec. 20, 1991.
A 1937 graduate of Roll High School, she was a member of the Dillman United Brethren in
Christ Church in Jackson Twp. She was also a homemaker and a farmer’s wife.
She is survived by a son, Richard K. of Van Buren; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Beverly)
Trout of Warsaw and Mrs. Melvin (Betty) Roush of Marion; a sister, Cleo Baker of
Wilmington, N.C.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A brother, William Williamson, and sisters Iva Mae Zent and Opal Achor, preceded her in
death.
Services at 10 a.m. Thursday will be at the Dillman United Brethren in Christ Church with
Pastor Dick Case officiating. Burial will follow at the VanBuren Cemetery.
Calling at Glancy Funeral Homes-H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren will be from 2 to 8
p.m. Wednesday and also at the church one hour prior to services Thursday.

Celissa Gay (Lisa) Masterson, 41
A Wells County Probation Officer from March 2001 to May 2004, Celissa Gay (Lisa)
Masterson, 41, of rural Poneto, died at 6:34 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Bluffton
Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Masterson moved to Wells County in 2001 and retired from the Probation Department in
2004 because of deteriorating health. She received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice
from the University of Texas and lived in Jacksonville, Texas, prior to 2001.
Born Dec. 11, 1963, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Dan and Joy Cobb Glass, her marriage was on
Jan. 2, 2001, in Bluffton to Paul E. Masterson, who survives.
Additional survivors include her mother Joy Glass of Jacksonville, Texas; a son, Jeremy
Craig Clakley of Rusk, Texas; a daughter, Chelsea Nicole Clakley at home; a step son,
Matthew David Masterson of Petroleum who is currently deployed in Afghanistan; a step
daughter, Chelsea Nicole Masterson at home; and a brother, Danny R. Glass of Tyler,
Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt and Chaney Funeral Home with
Pastor Dick Case officiating. Burial will be at the Elm Grove cemetery. Calling hours are
from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial are to the Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.
Orville L. Miller, 88
The brother of Clarence Miller of Bluffton, Orville L. Miller, 88, a lifelong resident of
the Pennville area, died at 10:02 p.m. Monday, March 14 at Bluffton Regional Medical
Center.
Born in Jay County on May 14, 1916 to Parley C. and Emma Kerns Miller, he married Opal F.
Humphreys in Geneva; she died Oct. 29, 1962
A 1937 graduate of Pennville High School, he was a Jay County farmer and a Pioneer Seed
dealer there for over 40 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a P.O.W.
guard in Memphis, Tenn., and was a member of the Pennville American Legion Post 482, the
Disabled American Veterans of Portland, and the Gilead Church in Jay County.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas L. Miller of Middlebury, David A. Miller of Geneva,
and John A. Hawn of Pennville; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild. In addition
to his wife, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Cecil L. Miller, and a sister,
Lettie Miller Ridgeway.
Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel in
Montpelier, with calling there Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. Military rites will be performed
by the American Legion. Burial will be in Twin Hill Cemetery in Pennville. Preferred
memorials are to the American Legion Post 482 or the D.A.V. of Portland.
Rev. Wilbur Dean Whitaker, 53
The Rev. Wilbur Dean Whitaker, 53, of Huntington, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, at his
home.
He was pastor of the New Beginnings Worship Center in Huntington since 1999. He previously
ministered as an itinerant evangelist for 14 years and conducted revival meetings across
the United States.
Born May 29, 1951, in Warsaw to Jessie and Sadie Shepherd Whitaker, his marriage in
Bluffton on April 18, 1979, was to Pat Calhoun, who survives.
Additional survivors include his parents of Silver Lake; two sons, John K. Whitaker of
Akron, Ind., and Taylor L. Whitaker of Warsaw; two daughters, Mrs. Chris (Dena) Schipper
of Akron, Ind., and Jennifer K. Whitaker of Huntington; five grandchildren; four brothers
and five sisters. He was preceded in death by a brother.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Gospel Hill
Pentecostal Church of God in Silver Lake. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the church
with the Rev. Billy Berry, Pastor Kim Norris and Pastor David Norris officiating. There
will be one hour of calling prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the
Silver Lake Cemetery in Silver Lake.
Preferred memorials are to the New Beginnings Worship Center.

Shirley K. Osborn, 64
Calling hours and a private family service were held Tuesday for Shirley K. Osborn, 64,
rural Van Buren, Grant County, who died at 1:26 p.m. Friday, March 11 at Marion General
Hospital. Burial was at Grant Memorial Park in Marion.
Born in Marion Sept. 4, 1940 to Grover L. and Margaret Todd Penrod, she married James A.
Osborn Sr. March 29, 1964 in Marion. He survives.
A 1958 graduate of Van Buren High School, she was a certified nursing assistant involved
in home healthcare for 30 years.
Additional survivors include three sons, Rick Crandall of Celina, Ohio, James Osborn Jr.,
Van Buren, and Anthony Penrod, San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Barbara) Woodcox,
Gas City; two sisters, Patricia Phillips and Patricia Charles, both of Marion.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or to the Aplastic Anemia MDS
Foundation.
Arrangements were in charge of Glancy Funeral Homes-H. Brown & Son Chapel.

George C. Allen, 85, a former Warren resident, died at 9:36 a.m. Wednesday at Peabody

George C. Allen, 85
A lifelong farmer in Huntington County, George C. Allen, 85, of rural Huntington, died at
9:36 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Peabody Retirement Center in North Manchester.
Mr. Allen also drove a school bus for the Huntington County Community Schools for 17 years
and in 1999 was honored as a 50-year member in the Amity Masonic Lodge #483 F&AM in
Huntington. He was a member in the Royal Arch #27 in Huntington, the Commandry #35 in
Huntington, the Floral Chapter of the Eastern Star and the Majenica Conservation Club. He
attended the Markle United Methodist Church.
Born Oct. 23, 1919, in Huntington County to Delmer G. and Lillian E. Craig Allen, his
marriage was to Alice E. Simon on March 11, 1945, in Jackson Township. She survives.
Additional survivors include four sons, Tom L. Allen of Hicksville, Ohio; John C. Allen of
Warren; Steven C. Allen of Huntington; and David L. Allen of Geneva; a daughter, Mrs. Ron
(Sue Ann) Horrell of Huntington; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Babcock, and three grandchildren.
Calling hours are today from 2-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Glancy Funeral
Homes - H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday
at the funeral home with the Rev. Kaye Patton officiating. Burial will be at the Masonic
Cemetery in Warren. There will be a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. today by Amity Masonic
Lodge #483 F&AM.
