Bernard B. Hickert, 77
The father of Dianne Witwer of Bluffton, Bernard B. Hickert, 77, of Wichita, Kan. died
suddenly Friday, Aug. 1 at his home.
Born Aug. 16, 1925, one of 11 children of John W. and Mary L. Fink Hickert, he was married
to Beatrice Schandler on Oct. 23, 1948. She survives. After graduating from St. Joseph’s
Military Academy in Hays, Kan., he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and
returned to be a life-long farmer and stockman in the Lenora, Kan. area. He was a member
of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Almelo.
In addition to his wife and his daughter in Bluffton, he is survived by six other
daughters, four sons, four brothers, five sisters, and 22 grandchildren.
A memorial service is being held this evening at the St. Joseph Parish Center in New
Almelo, with a Mass of Resurrection scheduled for Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the St.
Joseph Catholic Church. There will also be graveside military rites with burial in
St.Joseph Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Parks Funeral Home in Oberlin, Kan. Preferred memorials
to Benedictine College, Atchison, Kan.

Daisy M. Murray, 99
Daisy M. Murray, 99, died Tuesday at 10:22 a.m. at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. A
native and life-long resident of Wells County, she had lived at the Liberty Village
Nursing Home in Delaware County the past seven years to be close to her daughter.
Born June 26, 1904 to Ed and Maggie Farlow Walker, she married Zern Murray on Aug. 10,
1923. He died in 1996. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband on the family farm.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John (Wanda) Blair of Muncie; three grandchildren,
seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by two brothers, Claude and Harry Walker; and one sister, Helen Goodspeed.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral
Home in Bluffton. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Dr.
Joe Baker officiating. Burial will be in Stahl Cemetery. Preferred memorials to the
American Cancer Society.
Frances K. Miller, 92
Frances K. Miller, 92, of Decatur , died Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Adams County Memorial
Hospital.
Born Dec. 1, 1910 in Adams County to Andrew and Margaret Kortenber Wolpert, she married
Herman J. “Pete” Miller on Nov. 25, 1936. He died in 1971.
She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, the
Rosary Society and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia.
She is survived by one son, Leo C. Miller of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Anna Marie Callow
and Elizabeth Kintz, both of Decatur; two sisters, Mary Schirack and Margaret Lengerich,
both of Decatur; eleven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, and two
grandchildren.
Visitation hours are 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home in
Decatur; the Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral
home at 9:30 a.m. Friday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of
the Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Preferred memorials to St. Joseph School or the Women of St. Mary, Project Posey.

Ross O. Way, 84
A Wells County native and father of Mrs. Ted (Lou Ann) Williams of Keystone, Ross O. Way,
84, of Frankton died Wed., Aug. 6 at his residence. Born in Wells County on Feb. 10, 1919
to Oscar and Belvia Bowman Way, he married Rosemary Chambers on Nov. 15, 1958; she
survives. He retired from Landmark, Inc of Madina, Oh. and was a member of Stephen’s
Episcopal Church of Elwood, the Frankton Lions Club and the Frankton Masonic Lodge.
Surviving, in addition to his wife and daughter in Keystone are two sons, Larry Tobey of
Las Vegas, Nev. and David Tobey of Frankton; another daughter, Karol Tackett of DeBarry,
Fl; a sister, Geraldine Hiser; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harper & Dunnichay Funeral Home in
Frankton, with a Masonic Service Friday evening at 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held
at a later date. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Alexandria. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to St. Jo!

Ruth A. Stuck, 54
A former Adams-Wells Special Services teaching assistant for 10 years, Ruth A. Stuck, 54,
of Ossian died Thursday at her home.
Born May 27, 1949, in Fort Wayne, she was a graduate of South Side High School and a
member of the United Faith Presbyterian Church there.
Her marriage was to Dennis Stuck, who preceded her in death on Aug. 1 of this year.
Surviving are her mother, Juanita (Maxson) Becraft of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Jennifer
Stuck of Ossian, two brothers, Donald Becraft and Kevin Becraft, both of Fort Wayne; a
sister, Mrs. Mike (Deb) Lane of Churubusco. In addition to her husband, she was preceded
in death by her father, Robert J. Becraft.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Covington Memorial Funeral Home on
Covington Road in Fort Wayne, where services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday with Hal Thomas
of United Faith Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Covington Memorial
Gardens.

Rick A. Brewster, 46 -- Rites Pending
Rites are pending at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva for Rick A. Brewster, 46,
of Geneva, who died Thursday, Aug. 7, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Ricky A. Brewster, 46
A farmer and a welder, Ricky A. Brewster, 46, of 2765E 1100S, Geneva, died at 1:20 p.m.
Thursday at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He had been employed at Micro-Precision in Berne and he was a 1975 graduate of South Adams
High School. He was a member of the New Corydon United Methodist Church.
Born March 15, 1957, in Jay County, he was a son of Keith L. and Patricia L. Black
Brewster, both deceased.
His marriage was on April 20, 2002, at New Corydon, Ind., to Mariah Morningstar, who
survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jeremy Brewster and Lukas Brewster, both of Geneva; a
daughter, Mrs. Jesse (Amy) Gilliland of Celina, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Rodney (Cathy)
Bollenbacher of Geneva; a brother, Brian Brewster of Bluffton; grandparents Kathryn Black
and Hazel Brewster, both of Geneva; a step-daughter, LaKeisha Smith of Geneva, a
step-mother, Maxine Brewster of Decatur, two step-sisters, four step-brothers, and a
granddaughter, Brittany Brewster of Geneva.
Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva
where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday with Rev. Dan Perry officiating. Burial will
be in Riverside Cemetery, Geneva.

Louise W. McEvoy, 69
Louise W. McEvoy, 69, of rural Poneto, died at 7:35 p.m. Saturday at her home.
Born in Olive Hill, Ky. on February 10, 1934 to James and Callie Workman, she married Gene
McEvoy who died on Sept. 22,1999.
She retired from Indiana Box of Montpelier and was also a long time employee of Bi-County
Services, retiring from there in 1997.
Surviving are three sons, Ed McEvoy and Rick McEvoy, both of Bluffton, Dennis McEvoy of
Montpelier; two daughters, Mrs. Brian (Melanie) Hollingsworth, Poneto and Mrs. Tim (Kathy)
Ward of Wabash; two brothers, Jackie Fraser of Olive Hill, Ky., and Earl Workman of
Newton, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
There will be no calling and a private service will be held. Cremation will take place.
Memorials may be made to the Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana or Bi-County Services of
Bluffton. Arrangements were handled by Waters Funeral Home of Hartford City.
Tillie B. Norris, 92
Tillie B. Norris, 92, of Bluffton, died Sunday at Meadowvale Care Center.
Born Nov. 20, 1910 in Evansville to Thomas H. and Anna Farrow Anderson, she married Ersil
J. Norris on Feb. 15, 1930 in Fort Wayne. He died in 1981. She worked at G.E. in Fort
Wayne for 25 years, retiring in 1965. She was a member of the Community Christian
Fellowship Church in Bluffton.
She is survived by a daughter, Lillian Wanita Werling of Ossian; three grandchildren and
three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak
Funeral Home in Ossian, as well as one hour prior to the service, which will be held
Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Dr. Gene Bell officiating. Burial will be
in Antioch Cemetery in Hoagland. Preferred memorials are to the Community Christian
School.
Norbert D. Cable, 77
A U.S. Marine Corps Purple Heart veteran of Pacific Theater service, who was wounded on
Iwo Jima in World War II, Norbert D. Cable, 77, of Decatur died at 12 noon Saturday, Aug.
9, in the Adams County Memorial Hospital Extended Care Unit following an illness of
several years.
He had been retired since 1984 from Dana Corporation after 32 years of employment. He was
a member of American Legion Post #43, VFW Post #6236 and the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Cable was born Feb. 11, 1926, at Decatur to Walter and Viola Hullinger Cable.
His marriage was on Sept, 29, 1946, to Wanita Thatcher, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Roger Dale Cable of Roanoke; four daughters, Gloria Ann Loshe
of Berne, Mrs. Andy (Brenda K.) Wolf of Craigville, Mrs. James (Rebecca E.) Fuelling of
Decatur and Mrs. David (Cathy Jo) Runyon of Decatur; two brothers, Eugene Cable of
Mountainburg, Ark., and Robert Cable of Auburn; two sisters, Beverly Schwartz of Fort
Wayne and Diane Maitlen of Indianapolis; 19 grandchildren and 14
great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Artina Sommer, and a brother, Larwell Cable.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Zwick & Jahn
Funeral Home, Decatur, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Martin
Moehring officiating. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery with military graveside rites by
American Legion Post #43 Color Guard.

Marie C. Bates, 82
A native of Wells County, Marie C. Bates, 82, of Fairfield, Iowa died Saturday, May 9 at
the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.
Born Aug. 16, 1920 to Francis Marion and Katherine Irene Sleppy Dickason, she graduated
from Huntington High School in 1937. After living in California for 21 years, she moved to
Iowa in 1962 where she helped operate the Bates motel with her husband.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Orland of Fairfield, Iowa; three daughters,
Kathyrn Lou Cook of Hartford City, Mrs. Gene (Olivia) Smith of Bunceton, Mo., and Mrs.
Patrick (Susan) Kessel of Fairfield, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and
two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel W. and
James F. Dickason.
Services will be held Aug. 12 at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial at
Evergreen Cemetery.
Donald J. McMorrine, 63
A former employee at Sterling Casting Corp., Donald J. McMorrine, 63, died Saturday, Aug.
9 in Indianapolis.
Born in Denver, Colo. on July 12, 1940, he also had worked for Square D. Corp. and the
city of Indianapolis.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann (Huber); two sons, Mark and Dean McMorrine, and for
grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Preferred memorials are to the
American Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis. Arrangements are being handled by Flanner
& Buchanan, Hamilton Memorial Park in Noblesville.
