Norma K. Larmore, 95
Norma K. Larmore, a 37-year employee of Caylor-Nickel Clinic and Hospital, died at 6:25
a.m. Friday, Oct. 31 at Christian Care Retirement Community.
She had resided at Christian Care since 1996, previously residing on East Washington St.
Mrs. Larmore began her long tenure at Caylor-Nickel in 1940 in admissions and later became
a bookkeeper and office manager in the first addition to the hospital.
She remained associated with the medical field working in various office administrative
positions at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, and the Indiana University
Medical School in Indianapolis.
Born March 10, 1908 in Bluffton to Charles Edward and Edith Lenora Markley Kain, her
marriage on Oct. 25, 1946, in Fort Wayne was to Charles W. Larmore. He preceded her in
death on July 6, 1999.
Mrs. Larmore was a 1925 graduate of Bluffton High School. She also was a past member of
Psi Iota Xi Sorority and attended the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet Heller of Bluffton; three grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Hedges.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home
with Larry Sprinkle officiating and burial in Six Mile Cemetery.
Calling at the funeral home will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday and for one hour prior to
services on Monday.
Preferred memorials are to Home Health Care or Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.

Helen Louise Hartley, 85
Helen Louise Hartley, 85, of rural Hartford City, died Monday, Nov. 3, at 12:35 a.m. at
Miller’s Merry Manor in Hartford City where she had resided since August.
Born April 2, 1918 to William M. and Elizabeth C. List West, her marriage March 9, 1935 to
Arnold Hartley took place in Hartford City. He preceded her in death in July of 1979.
A homemaker and former employee of Green Thumb Inc., she was a life-long resident of
Blackford County. She was a patroness of the Nu Chapter of Delta Theta Tau Sorority in
Hartford City, a former member of the Hartford City AMVETS Auxiliary and a former member
of the Hartford City Ladies of the Moose.
Survivors include four sons, Arnold E. “Son” of Campo, Col., Donald of Montpelier, and
Ronald and Curtis, both of Hartford City; a daughter, Helen Sue Lee of Hartford City; a
sister, Marjorie E. Butler of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, a
daughter, May Louise, and a granddaughter.
Services at 2 p.m. Wednesday will be held at Keplinger Funeral Home, Hartford City. Burial
will be in the Hartford City Cemetery.
Calling hours are today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until
time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Amy Hartley Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Virgil L. “Red” Reber, 75 — Rites Pending
Rites are pending at Goodwin Memorial Chapel for Virgil L. “Red” Reber of rural Bluffton
who died Monday, Nov. 3, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Virgil L. “Red” Reber, 75
A long-time employee with the Indiana Bell Telephone Company, Virgil L. “Red” Reber, 75,
of rural Bluffton died Monday, Nov. 3, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in
Adams County.
Mr. Reber had retired from Indiana Bell Telephone Company in 1982 after 34 years of
service. He was a member of the Indiana Bell Telephone Pioneer Club and Bluffton Masonic
Lodge #145. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with membership at the Fort Wayne Scottish Rite.
Mr. Reber was a 1948 graduate of Bluffton High School and attended the First United
Methodist Church. He was a former scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 140 in Bluffton.
Born Sept. 14, 1928 in Adams County to George and Hazel Shady Reber, his marriage on Oct.
11, 1949 in Bluffton, was to Carolyn “Lou” Fritz. She preceded him in death on Aug. 13,
1993.
Survivors include three sons, David W. Reber of Warsaw, Craig M. Reber of Ossian and
Steven S. Reber of Troy, Ohio; a brother, Wayne Reber in Florida; four grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Lesh and Janet Worthington, and three
brothers, Don, Charles and Roy Reber.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel, where calling
will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. and for one hour prior to services on Friday.
Rev. Gary Lewis will officiate at services and burial will be in Six Mile Cemetery.

Donald L. Perkins, 65, of Poneto, died at 12:40 a.m. today at Bluffton Regional Medical

Clara L. Tonner, 79
Clara L. Tonner, 79, died at 8:43 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Christian Care Center.
Born March 23, 1924 to Amos and Emma Blocker Frauhiger, she married Harry V. Tonner in
Bluffton Oct. 7, 1945. He survives.
A lifelong resident of Wells County, she was a homemaker and a member of the Apostolic
Christian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Eric of Bluffton, Arlan of New Haven and Leon of Ossian;
three daughters, Mrs. Harriet Thompson, Ossian, Mrs. Steve (Carol) Stucky, Monroe, and
Mrs. Charles (Rose) Dalio of Elkhart; a brother, Donald Frauhiger, Fort Wayne; 12
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
One son, Lyle Tonner, preceded her in death.
Services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday will be held at the Apostolic Christian Church East at
Vera Cruz. Ministers of the church will officiate and burial will be in the church
cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel and one hour prior to
services Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Christian Care Center.
Donald L. Perkins, 69
Donald L. Perkins, 69, Poneto, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 12:45 a.m. at Bluffton Regional
Medical Center.
Born in Blackford County July 18, 1934 to Chester Lee and Maxine Irene Foreman Perkins,
his marriage April 16, 1965 to the former Sharon Stepp took place in Wells County. She
survives.
A graduate of Jefferson Twp. High School in Upland, he worked at Corning for 18 years
followed by employment at Keebler’s. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He served in
the U.S. Army in Germany, France and England between 1951 and 1960 and was a member of the
Grover Sheets American Legion Post #111. He was also a member of Lions Clubs in both
Petroleum and Poneto. He served as a desk volunteer at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David of Rochester, Minn.; three
daughters, Mrs. Mike (Karla) Eiler of Lafayette, Mrs. Kevin (Wanda) Segroves of
Waynesville, Mo., and Mrs. Wayne (Sandra) Wipperfurth, Cottage Grove, Wis.; three sisters,
Mary Shrader, Hartford City, Mrs. John (Lois) Steckley, Auburn, and Mrs. Donald (Carol
Ruth) Jackson, Gaston; six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Glancy Funeral Homes-Walker Chapel,
Montpelier. Pastor Tom Bradley will officiate and burial will be in Brookside Memorial
Park, Montpelier. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Grover Sheets Post
#111 of the American Legion.
Calling hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Douglas Keith Elkins, 60
A former resident of Blackford County, Douglas Keith Elkins, 60, died at the Care Center
in Clewson, Fla., Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 4 a.m.
A resident of Florida since 1976, he was born in Ceredo, W.V., May 6, 1943 to Jack P. and
Mildred Thompson Elkins.
He had worked for Sinclair Glass in Hartford City and was Vietnam War veteran.
Survivors include his mother; two sons, Douglas E. Elkins Jr., a member of the United
States Army, and Kenny Elkins, Hartford City; and a brother, Jack Elkins, Montpelier.
There will be no funeral service and no calling.
Glancy Funeral Homes-Walker Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Dawn M. Schooley, 38
A daughter of former Wells County residents, Dawn M. Schooley, 38, of Michigan City, died
unexpectedly at her residence Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 4:30 p.m.
Born Dec. 5, 1964 in Michigan City to Gale E. and Madeleine S. Habig Schooley, she was a
lifetime resident of Michigan City, graduating from Elston High School.
She was an honors graduate of Iowa Western Community College with a degree in sign
language interpreting. A licensed certified nurse’s assistant, she worked in the health
care industry for many years, traveled to Guatemala as part of the CISV exchange program,
was involved with the Moose Corps, a member of the Elston High School track team, the
Devilettes and toured the country as a member of the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corp.
In addition to her parents, survivors include a daughter, Zahara Starr Schooley; a sister,
Julie R. Barnett of San Antonio, Texas; three brothers, James G. and Mathew G. both of
Michigan City, and Patrick L. of Indianapolis.
Services Saturday at 1 p.m. will be held at Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St.,
Michigan City. Officiating will be President Dale Tipton of the Chesterton Mormon Church
and burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City.
Calling hours are Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service
at the funeral home.

Berniece I. Christman, 91
A native of Bluffton, Berniece I. Christman, 91, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, at King’s
Daughters Hospital in Madison, Ind.
Born April 15, 1912 to Don C. and Ivah Faus Bunn, she married John W. Christman Nov. 27,
1935. He preceded her in death in 1982.
A 1930 Bluffton High School graduate, she attended Anderson University. She was a widely
published free-lance writer and an honorary member of the Mark Twain Society, The American
Society of Penwomen, and the National Writer’s Club.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by sisters Evelyn Babcock and Dayra
Wagner.
Services at 1 p.m. Saturday will be held at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home with Rev.
Marvin Baker officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Huntington.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to the Madison County Humane Society.
