A former resident of Bluffton Route 3, a retired farmer and former Bluffton High School
teacher, Hugh M. Cobb, 79, died at 10:50 p.m. Monday at Swiss Village where he and his
wife had resided the past 2½ years. Mr. Cobb suffered a stroke May 21 and had been ill
since that time.
A teacher many years, Mr. Cobb retired as a member of the Bluffton teaching staff in 1968.
A member of Old Salem United Methodist Church he was a Sunday school teacher there and
choir director.
Born Nov. 24, 1901 in Illinois, he was a son of John and Martha Shannon Cobb. His marriage
to Esther French, who survives, took place May 30, 1927 in Wells County.
Surviving, in addition to the wife, are two daughters, Miss Ruth E. Cobb of Marcellus,
Mich., and Mrs. Ray (Nova) Shilt of Plymouth; a brother Ellis Cobb of Aurora, Ill., and
two grandchildren.
Calling after 1 p.m. Wednesday will be at the Yager Funeral Home in Berne.
At noon Thursday the body will be taken to Old Salem United Methodist Church for viewing
from 12:30 until time for services at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Gordon J. Neuenschwander will
officiate at the services and burial will be in the Six Mile Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to the Old Salem United Methodist Church, Red Bird Missions at
Beverly, Ky., or to Swiss Village.
