Mrs. Lelah Studabaker Jahn, 54, of 420 West Market street, wife of Ralph M. Jahn, funeral
director, died at 8:30 Thursday evening at the Clinic hospital where she had been a
patient for one day. Her death was attributed to an embolism. She had suffered for the
past four and one-half years and had returned recently from Florida where she spent the
winter recuperating. Her summers were spent at lake resorts for further rest.
A lifelong resident of Wells county, Mrs. Jahn was born July 15, 1895 in Harrison township
to John D. and Minerva Beeler Studabaker. Her marriage to Mr. Jahn took place in Bluffton
on Oct. 4, 1919.
Mrs. Jahn was a member of the First Evangelical and Reformed church and before her
extended illness was an active leader in all of the ladies' organizations of the
church, having held offices in many of them. She was Girl's Guild counselor for 15
years and served about one year after her decline health. She also was an active member of
the church choir and was known throughout the community for her vocal talents. She served
faithfully at the time of the redecoration of the church and installation of the new
organ. Mrs. Jahn was also a member of the W. C. T. U., the American Legion Auxiliary and
the Tri Kappa sorority. She was active in her husband's business firm until the past
few years.
Surviving besides the husband are a brother, Morris Studabaker, of Bluffton, and a sister,
Mrs. Chloe Kump, of 1025 North Wood Blvd., Fort Wayne. Two sisters are deceased.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.
It was Mrs. Jahn's personal request that flowers be omitted and if any donations were
wished that they should be given to some church or charitable organization.
The body will be taken to the First Evangelical and Reformed church at 12:30 Sunday
afternoon to lie in state. Funeral services will be conducted there at 2 o'clock with
Rev. Matthew Worthman officiating. Burial will be in the Six Mile cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be local funeral directors from Fort Wayne, Decatur, Berne,
Markle, Ossian and Bluffton. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the State Board of
Funeral Directors and Embalmers, of which Mr. Jahn is a member.
