Mrs. Mary Jane Studabaker, 87, native of Wells County, died at 8 a.m. today at the home of
a daughter, Mrs. Omer Lines, of Marion. Death was due to heart trouble and complications,
following an illness of a year.
The decedent was born Dec. 13, 1858 in Wells County, a daughter of A. T. and Louisa DeWitt
Studabaker. Her first marriage was to Samuel T. Markley in 1876 in Wells County. And her
second marriage was to Joseph Carter in 1901. Both are deceased. Mrs. Carter was a member
of the Rebekah lodge and the W. C. T. U. and was affiliated with the Independence Church
in Grant County, where she had resided the last 45 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Edmiston, of Richmond, and Mrs. Omer Lines, of
Marion; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Abbie Bowman of
Craigville, and Mrs. Lee Baumgartner and Mrs. E. L. Huffman, both of Bluffton. Two
daughters, a son, two sisters and three brothers are deceased.
The body will remain at the Jahn funeral home for services at 4 p.m. Thursday in charge of
Rev. Sloan Whitsett, of Marion. Burial will be in the Six Mile cemetery.
Friends may call at the Jahn home after 10 a.m. Wednesday.
