Retired business petroleum distributor, Waldo Studebaker Huffman, 76, of 209 West Central
Ave. died suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack Sunday at the Huffman summer home at
Sylvan Lake near Rome City.
Mr. Huffman who had spent the day about the lake property and appeared to be in his usual
state of health, was in the bathroom of the home and was engaged in shaving when he
slumped to the floor at the time of the fatal attack.
Death was determined to have occurred before the arrival of the Noble County EMS unit,
according to the coroner's report in that county.
Prior to his retirement a few years ago, Mr. Huffman operated the Huffman Oil Company and
previous to that time was associated for 27 years with the Midland Oil Co.
Mr. Huffman attended the First Presbyterian Church over 50 years and at one time served as
one of its trustees. He was a charter member of the Wells County Shrine Club and also held
membership in the Eastern Star, Elks Lodge and the Fort Wayne Scottish Rite and Shrine.
Born May 18, 1902, in Harrison Twp., he was a son of Edward L. and Minnie Studebaker
Huffman. His marriage to Gladys Ward, who survives, took place April 7, 1925 in North
Manchester.
Surviving, in addition to the wife, are a sister, Mrs. Jerry (Madeline) Landis of
Litchfield, Mich., and a brother, Max Huffman of Hope.
