I am looking for the date of death for Susan (Richardson) Burgess. She was born about 1848 and died in Bluffton sometime after 1920 but before 1930.

Connie;
I really can not answer your question but do know that gov't regs that started in the year 1820 concerning the purchase of lands bounded by or through which water flowed is possibly behind what you are finding.
To Clarify: Starting in 1820 Land that was bordered or through which water or a waterway flowed had to be purchased through Gov't Lot System and not through the Land Grant (Patent) System. The purpose was to control and inform purchasers of the restrictions passed on the impedment of flowing water (Mill Races, Dams, etc. were becoming problematic). Opinion: Unfortunately, the Gov't failed to properly impose required notification upon subsequent purchasers, ie; non-original land grantees. Part of this Congressional Act required 'all' Lands to be surveyed, and water/ways to be identified, and those deemed to fall under the guidelines had to be purchased through the LOt System. An excellent source for the entire history of Land dispursement in America can be found at ACPL in a large book by a man surnamed Battle. Sorry I do not remember the exact title of Mr. Battle's book, but it would be in Genealogy reference area in the 973.??? filings.
An example of the Lot System Purchase: my Grt. Grt Grandfather, Orson Clark, purchased in Union Twp., Wells Co. (probably 1848) in section 25 (I Believe?) land identified as Lot #4. Some might believe that this was a small tract or that possibly a community or family settlement had been laid out (plotted) in hopes of developing a town, when in fact this Lot is a large parcel of land bounding what had been determined to be flowing water.
Some County Plat Books also contain similar info about the water rights and Lot System, in fine print, on the lead-in pages, where sections, acres, chains, and perches, etc. are defined.
I do not know how this pertains to Knox County, except someone once asked if I knew why an early settler in Murry/Murray area went from Wells-to-Knox-to-Wells in subsequent Census info.
Tom McGinnis.

Can you tell me where Fairview is? I can't figure out who this Jacob Borne

maybe a baby? Thanks, more to research, ha ha
Thanks I do have Layke and Jacob in Craigsville.
