I was wondering if anyone on the list could give me some information or
help me clarify some info on the death of Lewis RICHARDS. He was born
about 1805 as he was 62 at the time of his 2nd marriage in 1867. He was
born in VA (maybe W-VA) and moved from there to Preble Co., OH where he
met his 1st wife Elizabeth McKee. From there they moved to IN and bought
some land in 1837 in Huntington Co. My gt.grandfather Eli RICHARDS was
born in Wells Co.,IN in 1840. Anyway, I have found some information
about a Lewis RICHARDS who died in Wells Co in 1901 with a 1st wife,
Elizabeth and a daughter, Margaret, who was born in OH. in 1828. Since
Lewis had a daughter Margaret who was 22 in 1850, that all fits. Could
someone give me more information on that or tell me how I could find out
more about the death. Lewis lived in Michigan for some time in 1860 and
married 2nd Frances Ponless who was 19 in 1867 when they married in
Berrien Co., MI. She was from Wells, IN according to the record. I would
appreciate any help I could get locating any records that might lead me
to his death date, location and maybe his parents names. Thank you in
advance. Mary in Michigan mahutchins(a)usol.com

Have you checked with the Wells Co. Library for his obituary? Their obituary index is online at http://www.wellscolibrary.org/obits/ and does show a listing for John Wibel (wife Margaret Mills) who died in 1938. I will also be in Bluffton in a week or two and could look it up for you, bring it home, scan it, and email it to you if you wished. Hope this helps a bit.

Zanesville, Wells Co., IN pretty small to have a Land Office. Most likely Zanesville, OH which did have one and was close to a US military survey.
For lookups in Fort Wayne directory - try Allen Co. Public Library Genealogy dept. at http://www.acpl.lib.in.us/genealogy/index.html

I'm trying to find the parents of William B.Weibel (names has been spelled various ways, but that is what is on his tombstone in Wshington Daviess Co., IN.) He lived from 1827-1887 and on one form put his father was a SWEED...I'm almost certain that is a misnomer and that he came from Switzerland or Germany.
Found something recently where a Wm Wible was working as a farm laborer on a Wineberger farm in Hagerstown, Wayne Co, IN. that is the city where my William married a Replogle in 1866. Is there any way I could tie your William in the publication to mine?
Cheers
Carolyn
