Thelda M. Zion, 75
A resident of Yoder, Thelda M. Zion, 75, died Thursday, April 22 at St. Rita Medical Center in Lima Ohio.
Born Oct. 30, 1928 in Yoder to Fred and C. Marie Mickley Phillips, her marriage on Aug. 16, 1948 in Yoder was to George T. Zion, who survives.
She was a member of Living Faith Missionary Church and was active in sewing and making cakes.
In addition to the husband, other survivors are two sons, Kenneth G. Zion of Matthewes, N.C., and Kevin W. Zion of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Donna Cook of Liberty Center; and two sisters, Evelyn Reinhart of Ossian and Fern Spice of Sun City, Fla. Also surviving are six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, David Zion in 1955, and two brothers.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Living Faith Missionary Church, 17718 S State Road 1, Yoder. Calling will be at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to services.
Pastor Floyd Veith, Pastor Ralph Ringenberger and Pastor Keith Moore will officiate at services and burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Ossian.
Preferred memorials are to the Living Faith Missionary Church.
Ina Marie Vice, 90
Ina Marie Vice, 90, Bluffton, died at 6 a.m. Friday at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Born in Adams County June 21, 1913 to Elroy and Dolly Steed Chrisman, she married Fred Sheets Feb. 10, 1934. He preceded her in death June 11, 1971. She married George L. Vice May 12, 1972 in Liberty Center. He preceded her in death Sept. 11, 1997.
She was a homemaker and a member of Liberty Center United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Bircham of Logansport and Mary Haviland of Florida; two sisters, Blanche Sheets of Harlan, and Catherine Patterson of Fort Wayne; 22 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren.
A third daughter, Vivian McKee, preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Flint Cemetery in Flint. (The town of Flint is located about nine miles west of Angola in Steuben County.) Pastor Stephen Bard will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Liberty Center United Methodist Church.

Kenneth L. Troxel, 79, of Bluffton, died at 12:30 a.m. today, April 27, at Christian Care Retirement Community. Rites are pending at Goodwin Memorial Chapel.
Dolly Jane Shepherd, 50
A former resident of Bluffton, Dolly Jane Shepherd, 50, died Monday, April 26 at her home in Quincy, Mich.
Born Oct. 10, 1953 in Stanford, Ky., to Walter and Martha Begley Humphrey, she was a graduate of Bluffton High School and attended Ball State University and Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Mich., where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Her marriage on April 10, 1971 was to William “Gene” Shepherd, who preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 1993.
She was a member of the Church of Christ in Angola.
Surviving in Michigan are daughters Candy Bodine of Bronson, Penni McGuire of Bronson and April Kinsey of Coldwater; another daughter, Sandy Newhard of Avilla, and a son, Jon Shepherd of Pleasant Lake. Also surviving are the mother of Bluffton; two sisters, Mary Lou Conrad of Sims and Barbara LaFever of Keystone; and brothers Mark Humphrey, Charles Humphrey, Wayne Humphrey and Kenneth Humphrey all of Bluffton and Hargis Sizemore of Ossian. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Carlos Humphrey and two sisters, Sue Shepherd and Lena Humphrey.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson with Rev. Ben Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in Bronson Cemetery. Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the Activity Fund at the Laurels of Coldwater or to the oncology unit at the Community Health Center of Branch County.
Mary Jo Dishman, 72
A resident of Blackford County the past 37 years, Mary Jo Dishman, 72, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, April 26 at her rural Hartford City home.
Born March 27, 1932 in Stearns, Ky., to James C. and Martha Foster Boyatt, her marriage on Nov. 14, 1947 was to Kirby Dishman, who survives. She was a member of the Roll United Methodist Church and a member of the Millard Brown American Legion Auxiliary Post 156 in Montpelier. She had attended Monticello City Schools in Monticello, Ky.
In addition to the husband, other survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Max (Linda E.) Miller of Dunkirk, Mary A. Sollars of Texas, Mrs. Eb (Betty J.) Carter of Montpelier and Mrs. Fred (Nicki F.) Little of Marion; a son, James R. Dishman of Kentucky, 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Sue Smith and a sister.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel in Montpelier with Rev. Steve Landis and Rev. Delmer Neal officiating. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery in Wells County.
Calling at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

William A. (Bill) Walker, 86
A retired railroad worker, William A. (Bill) Walker, 86, of Markle died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, April 25 at Markle Health Care.
Mr. Walker first worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and later the Penn Central railroad before retiring from Conrail after 38 years of service.
A lifetime member of the Markle Church of Christ, he was a 1937 graduate of Huntington High School and a member of the Masonic Amity Lodge F&AM in Huntington, past member of the Markle Masonic Lodge F&AM, member of Scottish Rite Fort Wayne Valley and the Mizpah Shrine Temple in Fort Wayne. He was a breeder, registrar, showman and judge for New Zealand Red Rabbits.
Born March 24, 1918 in Huntington County to Leslie A. and Elsie M. Ramsey Walker, his marriage on April 26, 1941 was to Martha Elizabeth “Betty” Crist, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Sharon Jean) Pugh of Markle, a son, Dr. William Michael Walker DVV of Lawrence, Kan., two sisters, Evelyn Walker of Temperance, Mich., and Marjorie L. Marshall of Surprise, Ariz., a brother, Robert L. Walker of Columbia City; eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Markle Church of Christ with Pastor Gerald Moreland, Pastor Mark Cleveland and Pastor Troy Mower officiating. Burial will be in the Markle Cemetery.
Calling at Glancy Funeral Homes H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren will be today from 2 to 8 p.m. A Masonic service will take place at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Steven J. Nussbaum, 50
Steven J. Nussbaum, 50, of Bluffton died Monday, April 26, 2004, in a drowning tragedy from a driving accident near Geneva.
He was born Nov. 16, 1953 in Adams County to Howard and Eloise Smith Nussbaum, who survive at Monroe. His marriage was on March 4, 1994, at Gatlinburg, Tenn., to Kim Burris, who also survives.
In addition, he is survived by a stepdaughter, Victoria Plemons of Bluffton; a brother, Dr. Michael Nussbaum of Jenkintown, Pa., and a grandmother, Cecil Smith at Swiss Village in Berne.
He was employed at FCC of Indiana at Portland and was a member of Life Community Church in Bluffton.
Calling with be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne,and Friday for an hour before the service at Life Community Church in Bluffton. Pastor Rick Fiechter and Pastor Kent Ringger will officiate for the the service at 10 a.m. Friday at Life Community Church, Bluffton. Burial will be in M.R.E. Cemetery at Berne.

A retired developer and home builder, Kenneth L. Troxel, 79, of 720 West Silver St., Bluffton, died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at Christian Care Retirement Community.
He was born September 5, 1924, in LaCross, Indiana, to William F. and Ida Meyer Troxel. His marriage was on June 20, 1948, in Bluffton to Joyce Moser, who survives.
He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church East.
Also surviving are three sons, Brad and Kim R. of Bluffton and Sidney of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Bert (Karen) Aeschliman of Carmel and Mrs. Vic (Peggy) Reinhard, of Bluffton; two brothers, William Troxel Jr. of Bluffton and Dwight Troxel of Decatur; three sisters, Marjorie Troxel, Alice Troxel and Mrs. Evelyn Meyers, all three of Bluffton; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Jean Troxel in 1953; two brothers, Ralph and Willard Troxel, and one sister, Mary Jane Sprunger.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Goodwin Memorial Chapel, and Friday at the Apostolic Christian Church East for one hour prior to the service.The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with ministers of the church presiding. Burial will be in Apostolic Christian Cemetery.

Nancy Collins Stagg, 66
Sister of Trent M. Patterson of Bluffton, Nancy Collins Stagg, 66, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born in Kendallville to Kenneth and Geraldine Patterson, she was a 1955 graduate of Kendallville High School. She attended Indiana University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and graduated in 1959.
She was a resident of Fort Wayne since 1960 and involved in a number of community service organizations including the Fort Wayne Junior League, Heritage Antique Club, Tri Kappa and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
A longtime teacher at Aboite Elementary School, she had retired in June of 2000, closing a career in teaching that began in August of 1979.
Surviving, in addition to the Bluffton brother, are her husband, Michael Stagg; three daughters, Sarah C. St. Charles of Half Moon Bay, Calif., Elizabeth C. Brown of Bellbrook, Ohio, and Mary Martha Frank of Fort Wayne; one stepdaughter, Julie A. Stagg of International Falls, Minn.; one stepson, David R. Stagg of Highmore, S.D., and 11 grandchildren.
Calling will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday with vigil at 8:30 p.m. at D. O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home. A mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St.Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10700 Aboite Road. Memorials to donor’s choice.

Kenneth L. Gilliom, 75
Kenneth L. Gilliom, 75, Bluffton, died at 4:45 a.m. this morning, April 29, at his residence after having been in failing health the past ten months.
Born in Adams County on June 3, 1928 to Louis and Estella Kaehr Gilliom, he was raised by his grandparents, Orel and Elizabeth Gilliom, and married Marie Murray on May 5, 1951 at the First Baptist Church in Bluffton; she survives.
He retired in 1983 from dairy and grain farming, and also was a second shift foreman at Kitco Manufacturing Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church East.
Other survivors include a son, Kent E. Gilliom of Bluffton; a brother, David Gilliom of Bluffton; two sisters, Mrs. Bernard (Linda) Geels and Mrs. Rex (Lorene) Brinneman, both of Temecula, Calif.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Bertsch in November, 2003; a brother, Harry Wayne Strahm; his parents and a stepmother, Ethel Gilliom.
Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church East. Calling hours are Friday from 6 to 8 p.m and Saturday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Goodwin Memorial Chapel, and Sunday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Preferred memorials to the church’s charity fund or the Family Hospice of NE Indiana.
Woodrow W. Kiefer, 85
Woodrow W. Kiefer, 85, rural Bluffton, died at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, April 29 at the Meadowvale Health Care facility.
A native of Wells County, he was born on Oct. 31, 1918 to Fred C. and Myrtle Vaughn Kiefer and married Lucille Maddux on Sept. 25, 1937 in Covington, Ky.; she died Jan. 10, 2000.
A veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he retired in 1981 after 34 years of service at Franklin Electric. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Franklin and of the American Legion Post 111.
He is survived by five sons, Frederick, Ronald and Donald Kiefer, all of Bluffton, Thomas Kiefer of San Mateo, Calif., and Rex Kiefer of Walnut, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Hargis (Nina) Sizemore and Celia Kiefer, both of Ossian; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren.
Visitation hours are Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel, with services beginning at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Doug McClure officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, with graveside military rites by the American Legion.

The brother of Phil Baker of Ossian, James W. Baker, 46, Fort Wayne, died Tuesday, April 27 at his home.
He was born in Cedar Lake on Sept. 7, 1957. Other survivors include his mother, Geraldine Baker of Fort Wayne; two other brothers, Timothy and Chad Baker, both of Fort Wayne; and a grandmother, Agnes Genth of New Haven. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl O. Baker.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Elzey Patterson Rodak Home for Funerals in Fort Wayne, with calling two hours prior to the service. Memorials to the donor’s choice.
Carolyn Thomas, 77
The mother of Paul Thomas of Bluffton, Carolyn Rose Thomas, 77, Hartford City, died Monday, April 26 at Marion General Hospital in Marion after an extended illness.
Born in Elwood to Ralph and Sylvia McElfresh, she attended Elwood High School and retired from Corning Glass Works in Bluffton after 15 years of service.
Other survivors include six other sons, John Thomas of Eaton, Steve Thomas of Hartford City, Mike Thomas of Chesapeake, Va., Thomas Thomas of Springfield, Ill., and Patrick Thomas of Albany; three daughters, Carol Marsh and Cheryl Edmondson, both of Fort Wayne, and Janet Roberts of Marion; a sister, Mary Ellen Young of Elwood; a brother, Jack Beeman of Tennessee; 17 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Sue Dodds; and three brothers, William, Victor and Eugene McElfresh.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Garden View Funeral Home south of Hartford City, with calling at the funeral home this evening from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Hazel V. Rasor, 82
Former Bluffton resident Hazel V. Rasor, 82, Fort Wayne, died at her home on Wednesday, April 28. She retired from G.E. in 1982 after 38 years of service.
Survivors include her husband, Emmett “Art” Rasor; a daughter, Judy Maggard of DeMotte; a step-daughter, Sandra Walters of Fort Wayne; four step-sons, Michael, Steven, Mark and Gordon Rasor, all of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren; six step grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Davis, who died in 1953, a sister and a brother.
Calling hours are Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home in Fort Wayne, and Saturday for one hour prior to the service, which will begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

The mother of Carol Stephens of Ossian, Fern Schneider, 90, Fort Wayne, died Wednesday, April 28 at Lutheran Hospital.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Bethlehem Suburban Lutheran Church.
Other survivors include two sons, Robert Schneider of Columbia City and Richard Schneider of Fort Wayne; two other daughters, Betty Hockemeyer of Columbia City and Darlene Schneider of South Bend; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
Services will be held at noon Monday at the church, with visitation hours Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Wayne Street Chapel, and for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
