Yes, you are correct, Charlie married Ida Mae Oxley, my grandmother's sister. Aunt "Idie", as we called her, was more like a grandmother to me than an aunt because her sister Osa, my grandmother, died when I was 5 years old. We used to go visit Ida on Sunday afternoons and I was quite fond of her and still miss her, even though she died back in the 1970's. (I just wish I had paid more attention when she talked about "the family" and things that went on in the past that would interest me greatly now that I am into genealogy.)
I never knew Charlie as he died two weeks before I was born. I don't have a picture of him and would love to see the one you have of him, and also the other pictures you mentioned. I can only think of one picture that I have of Ida and it is when she was older. She is sitting with my grandmother. I also have a picture of her son Jim that I will send to you. I will send them to your private email. I don't have any pictures of Ida when she was a young woman. There is one somewhere of her as a child in a group of school children, but I will have to see if I have that one here or if it is at my mom's house in Indiana.

Linda,
I have Charlie Herring m to Ida Mae Oxley. Would I have the correct connection? They had 1 child: James Paul Herring?
I have been talking with a counsin, who has provided me with some photo's. I have a photo of Charlie Franklin Herring and Daniel Elmer Herring. Also have a pic of Rebecca Jane Bricker (wife to Daniel Elmer). Unfortunately no picture of Ida or child Paul. Would you have one that you would be willing to share? I have data on Charles Franklin's side but have nothing on Ida's side. Let me know if you are interested.

I'd call my credit card company. You can normally dispute any charges.
And/Or close the credit card. They can not charge you then....
Thanks

Why, oh why, didn't people write the names on the back of those old photos??!! (the full names) Such a loss to genealogists.
My grandmother's sister, my great aunt Ida, was married to Charlie Herring, grandson of Rueben Herring. She has been gone for several years now, but I don't know if she would have been able to tell if it was Rueben Herring or not. She and Charlie got married in 1926 and Rueben died in 1903.
Connie,
I would not stand for that kind of treatment. Call your credit card company
and dispute the charge. If that doesn't help, contact the Attorney General's
office in your state and complain. Also, there must be a local TV station that
has a consumer reporter who loves to do stories just like this one.
The main problem I ahve always had with Ancestry was that they are sponsors
for the Genealogy.com pages(Meredith Family Genealogy Page, for one). We post
information there, they gather it and then the SELL it back to us. Sound fishy?
I will write them a complaint as well. There's strength in numbers.
Good luck,
Richard Meredith
Today I learned a costly lesson. In February I signed up for the free trial offered by Ancestry.com. When my credit card bill came what seemed like days later I had a $29.95 charge for Ancestry.com. I thought okay I will go ahead and use it for the month and cancel before it comes due again. Well today I received my credit card billing and there was the Ancestry.com billing again( 5 days before the time was up). So I called them in an attempt to cancel the service before it was due again. Well guess what you can't cancel it. According to Ancestry I had signed up for the free 2 weeks and was automatically put into the 1 year program with out further contact by Ancestry. When I ask how I could cancel it (at $30.00 a month that's $360. for the year) I am retired I can't do that and eat.To cancel they would let me out of the "contract" if I pay $50.00 for breaking it. Well needless to say I argued and threaten but they would not budge either I continue with the $30 per month or !
pay the $50 fine for breaking the contract. So I agreed to pay the $50 that's about $300 less the the year fee. I also told them I would contact everyone I knew and give them fair warning about the ethics and sneaky tricks they play. So fair warning don't sign up for the Ancestry.com free trial cause it could cost you your first born before its over.

Would like a look up for and Obituary if someone has access to the Obits for
a Wash Baker, Date Printed 1976-11-30 what ever this means and his age was
87 at the page and it is in the News Banner, page 3, column 5. It doesn't
say on the obit index but he was married to Daisy F. Baker. She is also in

We have recently upgraded our website pages to make navigation somewhat faster and more intuitive. The Indiana atlas series is a useful research resource for those of you interested in early Indiana places and names:
http://www.har-indy.com/in_map/in_index.html
Each Atlas CD consists of a series of either 8 or 9 bordering counties making up 1 of 11 Zones that depict all of Indiana's 92 counties. Each Zone Atlas contains high resolution scanned images of vintage 1876 county maps that are presented in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF).
Each county map may include the following 19th century features:
* roads, railroads and canals
* cities, towns and villages
* post offices and government sites
* one-room schoolhouses, churches and cemeteries
* rivers, streams and ferries
* industrial sites, furnaces and mills
* early homesteads and farms
* and much, much more
The Historic Atlas of Indiana series is an invaluable aid to Genealogists, Historians and researchers in search of 19th century Indiana places. The Adobe Acrobat Reader for MS Windows is needed to view, zoom, pan and print from the PDF map images contained in this atlas; and is included free on each CD. No other software is necessary.
The Indiana CD's are also available for purchase on eBay at by following this link:
