Anyone interested in the Mullies family should know that Martha's father, Wm. was born and raised in Iredell Co., N. C. and that the family there has been traced to 1658 Va., all documented; while originally Mullis, Mullies also from time to time appears in English Records (origins of Mullis families in the U. S. with but rare exception), and in Martha's home area of Iredell Co., there are many Mullies descendants.
Willing to share,

BLUFFTON, WELLS COUNTY, IND., FRIDAY, JUNE 20, 1862
[newspaper not specified]
TO EMMA
----
We laid our little one to rest
One pleasant summer even;
We placed her hands upon her breast
And then we thought of Heaven.
We knew our little cherub child
Had passed death's gloomy portal,
We knew her little spirit mild
Had now become immortal.
Yet O how much we miss her now,
And listen for her footsteps falling,
And every hour methinks I hear
My precious darling calling.
And every place, where e'er I go,
I find some little token,
Some little plaything that she loved,
Or toy that she had broken.
And everywhere I turn my eyes
There's marks of little fingers,
And oh, I turn away and sigh --
The touch is all that lingers!
O Emma, shall I never feel
Thy little arms entwining
Around my neck, as oft you did,
With love and mirth combining?
That fond caress, that witching smile,
That God to thee had given --
And shall I never see thee more
Until we meet in Heaven?
O teach me, Father, how to bear
This stroke without repining,
That I may meet my angel child
Where countless hosts are shining.
The subject of the poem was the daughter of Wells County Circuit Court Judge
Edwin R. Wilson (1827 - 97) and his wife, Electa Case Wilson (1830 - 1913).
The child is buried at Six Mile Cemetery, southeast of Bluffton, in a
six-grave family plot adorned only with her stone, although the judge
undoubtedly was buried beside her. Their names, strangely, are not in the
cemetery records.
The stone, a six-foot-tall obelisk, is engraved, "Emma C., daught. of E. R.
& E. Wilson -- died -- June 9, 1862 -- 3 Y. 2 M. 7 D."

I am a GG grandson of Peter and Susannah (nee Harnisch) Clemens who moved to Wells County from Lancaster/Lebanon Counties in PA sometime after the Civil War. I'm hoping to connect with a Wells County cousin for the purpose of exchanging information. As an added enticement, I have a picture of Peter and Susannah taken at the Ashbaucher studio about 1880 which I'm perfectly willing to share.

Just to check in, in case a new researcher hasn't come across my quest before...
I'm looking for the death dates of John and Mary Collins Lamb. They appear in the 1860 census--I don't know if they're in the 1870 census or not. Their daughter Emma L. (1863-1905) married George Alfred Bailey (1850-1902). I'm also interested in what happened to Emma's siblings: Uris Paul (born 1849), Susan Catherine (born 1851; married William Crismore 1869); Mekala Elen (born 1861); and Joseph (1866-1937; married Margaret; buried in Wells County). I've come across an Anna Lamb married to a Andrew Crismore, but I don't think that's a relation.
And my ultimate search: Mary Collins Lamb was born 1827 in Virginia to Paul (born 1798) and Susan (born 1794) Collins. Mary married John Lamb (born 1822 in Ohio, the son of Jacob and Catherine Lamb) in Jackson, Ohio in 1844; the Collinses (including sons John and William) and John and Mary (with baby Andrew) moved to Wells County in 1848. The Collinses do not appear in the 1860 census; another researcher states that they moved to Kokomo, but has not provided sources, and she doesn't know their date of death. The question: is my Paul and Susan the same Paul and Susannah Waggoner Collins from Lewis, (West) Virginia? I am almost certain it is, but I cannot find conclusive documentation.
Any help is gratefully received! Please contact me also if you think I might be able to help you.
Hi All,
I found a website on Ancestry.com that was posted by a David H. Huffman who
I believe is from Bluffton. He is also a distant cousin of mine- we share a
common Great-grandmother.
I have tried contacting Mr. Huffman by email , but have not received a reply.
I looked up his phone number, but it was not listed.
Does anybody on the list know Mr. Huffman? I 'd love to compare notes with
him. I have an extensive amount of data on collateral lines that was not on
his site that he might like to have.
Thanks in advance,
Richard Meredith

my e-maiI to you came back. I lived in the Sid Dillman house several years ago. It was built by Sid Dillman in 1885 at a cost of $500 according to a 1903 Wells Co. History. The blacksmith shop stood where the garage is now located and was standing until a fire in 1971. At one time the post office was just south of the shop, and the Dillman School was north of the house on the corner until 1936 when the Jackson twp school was built 2 miles east. That was consolidated into Southern Wells around 1974. I don't have access to the history now, but it mentioned several children. I went through Dillman last week, and the house is being remodeled once again. I guess they don't make them like they used to. I heard from some of the old-timers that the population dwindled down from around 2000 at the height of the oil boom around 1910 to 34 in 1976. I thought you might be interested in some of this.
Just a reminder the Blackford -Wells Genealogy Society will meet Saturday March 16, at 10 AM at the Wells county Library. Mark Davis will be our speaker. Here is a little about Mark. This will be a meeting you don't want to miss!!!!!

During the process of investigating my family history, I have great, great grandmother whose name was Margaret Shields(born in 1809). She was the daughter of Jesse and Catherine Fox Shields of Valley City, Indiana. Maragaret married Aaron Meigs Bean on 10/13/1830. They lived in Harrison County until 1856, when they moved to Minnesota. They returned to Mauckport, Indiana in 1869. They had 9 children. One of their daughters, Margaret Pamela Bean (b. 5/27/1838-died 12/27/1902) married Jefferson H. Flora (5/30/1833-3/21/1916)while in Minnesota. (Jefferson H. Flora was also from Harrison Co., Indiana). They were married on 8/17/1859. Jefferson H. Flora fought Indians while there. Perhaps this information may give you some leads.
